Krishna to meet German FM today, UNSC seat on agenda
Foreign Minister S M Krishna will meet his visiting German counterpart Guido Westerwelle on Monday to discuss a coordinated strategy for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
This will be the first such discussion after both the countries were elected non-permanent members of the Security Council earlier this month.
We are convinced that India, as a valuable partner in the UN and the G-20, should, according to its weight play, an active and decisive role in this globalised multipolar world. We would like to cooperate with India in many fields. The challenges lying ahead of us are manifold climate change, international security as well as resolution of regional conflicts. These are also subjects I would like to discuss with Indian partners. Westerwelle said in a statement.
On whether India will seek Germanys support in its bid for a permanent seat at the UNSC, T P Seetharam, MEAs joint secretary for Germany, said: We already have support of several countries... Germany, being part of the G-4, is part of a coordinated effort for that permanent membership. So, we are working towards that. But as you know, we require the support of all five permanent members before we see results.
