Turkish troops were deployed in northern Iraq with the full consent of officials in Baghdad, Safin Dizayi, a spokesman for northern Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), said Thursday.

“After the Daesh terrorist group attacked the Kurdistan region and Iraq, many countries extended military support and provided training [to fight Daesh],” Dizayi asserted.

“With the full knowledge of the central [Iraqi] government’s Defense Ministry, two bases were set up — in Dubardan and Bashiqa near Mosul — to provide military training,” he added.

These facilities, he went on to note, “were intended to provide training to Iraqi police forces and volunteers from Nineveh province [of which Mosul is the regional capital]”.

“The government of Kurdistan [i.e., the KRG] provided the facilities necessary for this process,” Dizayi said.

Within this context, Turkish military experts provided the necessary training for Iraqi police and local volunteers,” he added.

According to Dizayi, these forces had since been visited and inspected “by the Iraqi defense minister himself”.

In mid-2014, Daesh captured Mosul — Iraq’s second largest city — along with vast swathes of territory in the country’s northern and western regions.

In recent months, the Iraqi army has managed to retake much territory. Nevertheless, Daesh remains in firm control of Mosul, which Iraqi officials have vowed to recapture by year’s end.

In December of last year, Turkey sent some 150 troops and about two dozen combat tanks to Camp Bashiqa, located some 12 kilometers northeast of Daesh-held Mosul.

The deployment — which has been criticized by some Iraqi politicians — was meant to provide protection to Turkish military personnel tasked with training Iraqi volunteers to fight Daesh.

I dunno why we even care to answer to central puppet government of Iraq...

Turkey can't occupy North Syria and Iraq for long. It's temporary my friend. This is no ottoman era anymore. Puppets or no puppets they have a parliament who decides who's welcome and who not.

Neither can safavids sustain their occupation and grip on majority sunni Syria forever. This is no safavid era anymore. See, silly remarks are easy to make. Turkey will not leave Iraq that easily just for Iran, US and its puppets to play their sectarianism card in Iraq. Btw, why is your 'islamic republic' not ordering its puppets to kick out the 'infidel' US and other westerners out of Iraq first? Working hand in hand with the 'Big Satan' is ok as long as it suits the ayatollah? :D

It's simple. Iraq asked Irans help and they don't want Turkey helping them by force. Iraqi government decides about Americans to stay or not.

The reason behind it is simple then; Iraq and Iran are up to nothing good after liberating Mosul. Ethnic cleansing of Mosul and pushing refugees to us are not unlikely, are they? We shall see.

You should build a great wall or deport them if you don't want them. Iran is also not invading countries who had a role in Afghan war which caused millions of Afghans to flee to Iran. Iran is receiving them 40 years already, including the sunni afghans, so don't worry about ethnic cleansing of mosul.

You will have to wait until we build our great wall.
It won't be long now, we will use those refugees to build it too. and make Syria pay for it, for their terrorism.
Good luck to you brother.

The guy is serious, beyler! :D

Former Turkish PM, Davutoglu receives Iraqi PM on December 25, 2014

- "We can defeat this organisation by uniting all our powers, with the support of the countries in the region," al-Abadi said, in translated remarks. Al-Abadi said he expected Turkish support on intelligence-sharing, military training and armaments.

- Davutoglu said Turkey was already training Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters to combat the IS. "We are open to any idea" to extend further support to Baghdad, he said.

and kerkuk and mossul thats all we want :D

To our Turkish brothers if you don't like brothers then neighbors now our concerns not that you occupy part of our country that's far too far not to you but trust me to any nation under the sky .

our concern is that you with some help from other nations interested in dividing our country to help some separatists like alnujaifi to declare the Federation of Mosul then that's lead to the annexing of mosul later that something we won't let happen and erdogan can be the cause of a real civil and sectarian war.

The goal is to make barrier between Iran, Iraq and Syria now that barrier should be the Western part of iraq!!!

that's some concerns I read on the social media and listen in the news now how real is this I don't know but some people afraid ?? of that because it can lead to the century long war god forbid.

alnujaifi to declare the Federation of Mosul
Mosul doesn't belong to you already. It will never be a place again where dictator's, terrorist's, militia's, foreign armies run freely and act as they wish, cause nothing but trouble in region for years to come. Let me see the world!
