Posted on 14 hours ago
PESHAWAR (APP): As many as 375,238 children are vaccinated with inactivated vaccine in 20 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the target population of 382676 children.
The IPV campaign was conducted in 20 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Abbotabad, Battagram, Buner, Charsadda, D.I.Khan, Dir Upper, Dir Lower, Hangu, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Lakki Marwat, Malakand, Mansehra, Mardan, Nowshera, Shangla, Swabi, Swat, Tank and Torgher, said a press release issued here on Monday.
The campaign was already piloted successfully in Peshawar and Bannu following the influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan Agency with large majority finding refuge in these two districts from June 2014.
The data shared by emergency operation center Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (EOC) informed that 1692 teams including fixed, mobile and outreach have been formed to cover the target population.
It is pertinent to mention here that IPV is being introduced and being used alongside OPV in order to boost the immunity of children most-at-risk against the polio virus. This is an effort to stop polio transmission in Pakistan. The pediatricians\' have suggested that children should be given one dose of IPV and continue to receive OPV whenever it is offered. Extra doses of OPV will only strengthen the childs immunity against polio, they added.
