ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to purchase three hundred and eighty buses from China for Rapid Bus Transit service.

A spokesman of the government told that a delegation will visit China for the purpose on Friday.

The buses will ply on twenty-six-kilometer-long route from Chamkani to Hayatabad, Radio Pakistan reported.

The project on completion will help solve traffic problem of Peshawar city.

STUPID MOVE!!
This is really stupid given how there are companies making buses in Pakistan. The government should rather encourage the companies to come and make these buses in Pakistan, not only for this project for open market as well. If not that, should at least consider and prefer buying from manufacturers who are already making buses in Pakistan.

It will be disappointing if PTI gov. too goes down that route!

Well these buses could be assembled in Pakistan and this would create local jobs and expertise. KPK Govt should at-least try to float a tender for private sector to bid on assembly plants.

First look of the Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus being made in China. for Peshawar BRT Bus Rapid Transit Project

There seems to be two different types of buses, one on the main corridor of BRTS with big long haul buses and the other variants on the city roads, smaller one for use as feeder buses. 380 buses is a good figure though...

They are going to buy hybrid buses which is not available in Pakistan.
They can atleast be assembled in Pakistan..creating valuable expertise for maintenance later on. Chinese can setup local plants under tax breaks...the planning of Pakistani economy is not going in right direction...tabdeeli in KP!

Probably installing assembly plant for just 300 bused not financially feasible unless you decide to use same type of buses in other BRT project .

300 buses is a very good quantity..for a assembly plant , plus there will be buses required for other BRT projects in Pakistan and their maintenance facilities as well..some of the biggest manufacturing plants of Mercedes and Scania have annual capacity of 4000 units.

Many GOP should have some policies where anyone planning to build metro should have the same template. That can bring synergy later during operation and maintenance phase. As well one can establish manufacturing of buses and other stuff as there will be much higher demands as at-least half a dozen metro bus projects are going on. But this will defeat the purpose of chines loan which is to boost their export.
Idia did same when multiple cities started building Metro trains. They got manufacturing for metro train coaches started first. Now that facility is fulfilling internal demands as well exporting coaches.

There are no rules and regulations in Pakistan.
Pakistani interest is the last thing in the mind of Pakistani politicians.

They are going to buy hybrid buses which is not available in Pakistan.

Are you sure?
