Kosovo Serbs burn border points​

Kosovo Serbs have set fire to two border crossings to protest against Kosovo's declaration of independence.

The attacks took place at the northern Jarinje and Banja crossings, manned by United Nations and Kosovo police.
In response, Nato-led peacekeepers were deployed at the crossings. There have been no reports of any injuries so far.
This is the most serious incident since Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on Sunday, the BBC's Nick Thorpe in Kosovo says.

Belgrade has said Kosovo's declaration violates international law.

The US, Britain, France, Germany and Italy have all recognised the new state, but others have not.
Russia has warned that the move endangers international stability, while China has expressed its deep concern.
The UN Security Council is divided over how to respond to Kosovo's move, and it has failed to agree on any action.

Police withdrawal​

Some 1,000 Kosovo Serbs attacked and set fire to the border crossing at Banja, on the main road between Kosovo's divided town of Mitrovica and Montenegro, our correspondent says.
Nato-led peacekeepers from K-For were called in after UN and Kosovo police were reportedly forced to withdraw from the crossing to a nearby tunnel.
In a separate attack, a mob burnt down the wooden huts of the Kosovo and UN police at the Jarinje crossing, on the main road linking Mitrovica and Serbia's capital Belgrade.
"The police on the spot were not enough - we are deploying troops to re-establish order. There is an ongoing operation," K-For spokesman Bertrand Bonneau told the BBC.
"We have reinforced all the checkpoints in northern Kosovo. The rest of Kosovo is peaceful," he said, adding that so far there were no reports of any injuries.

The Kosovans want to join Albania, but the EU is not allowing them to. The Kosovans are in the streets waving Albanian and American flags. They are happy that the US and UK have recognized them from the start, and also for helping them out in the war against the Serbs.

All seven (or more) former Yugoslavian states will come together - joinning EU, including Serbia.

Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo will welcome Serbia to join, because all former Yugoslavian states will totally join the Western. USA and EU want to isloate Russian power from Balkan penninsula.

It is pure politics when states recognize other new born states. Like Bosnia, they dont want to recognize Kosovo because they have a conflict in their country with Bosnian-serbs who have created a republic within a state (republika srpska), and if Bosnia as a state accept\recognize Kosovo it will give republika srpska a incentive to proclaim independence or start a independence movement.

Countries like Turkey recognized Kosovo very quickly because they have a conflict with greece and cyprus over the northern turkish republic of cyprus. Because they support this cause they will be quick to recognize countries.
Now this bring in China and Taiwain. Since China dont want Taiwan to be independent they will hesitate with recognizing Kosovo. On the other hand Taiwan will recognize it because it will support their cause of independent.

States who dont have any territorial problems or with a separtist minority groups will recognize kosovo quickly, like USA, Germany, Afghanistan and so on. And other countries wont, like Spain (The basque country), greece (Cyprus) Pakistan\India (Kashmir?)

There is a long way to go before these countries could join EU. There are certain criterias for joining EU and some of them dont fulfill them. Croatia and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is currently candidates for joining EU.

Getting in to EU is a good step for these countries, maybe then their hatred for each other will decline when they will put their differences beside and start looking for a brighter future together. They once lived together before under a strong leadership (Tito) and they can do so again under the guidelines of EU. And America have not much to do with EU, many of them dont understand what EU stands for. EU is not one entity but is driven by 27 countries and other countries with economic ties, like Norway, Switzerland and Iceland.
