Koreans React To Yemeni Refugee Crisis In Jeju Island

These refugees should convert and accept Jesus Christ as their true lord and saviour. Their life in South Korea will become very easy and also they should stick to their own women. South Koreans are very possessive about their women folks.

They the South Koreans need to be scared of God, for one day they too could become refugees. Have they forgotten the sufferings of the second world war already?
Vast majority of religious South Koreans are Christians or Buddhists embedded within a Confucian social fabric.

The older generation remembers the wars well, the experience fades with every new generation.

The Korean diaspora is mostly in the US, they went as immigrants not refugees. Americans don't seem to have a problem with the presence of South Koreans. I don't think many South Koreans would sympathize with accepting refugees from a Saudi vs Iran proxy war, one where even regional nations don't properly accommodate them.
As single nation states, Japanese and Koreans are extremely xenophobic.
South Korean sense of nationalism and self identity is very high and goes beyond religion, its going to be this way for the foreseeable future. We are talking about a nation that is willing to donate gold to their government in order to resolve its financial issues and weather global instability. They did it in 1998 to survive the Asian Financial Crisis.

3.5 million people donated their gold family heirlooms, sports medals, and jewellery to the government in order to pay the IMF.

Koreans distrust any entity and peoples that they perceive as not willing to make similar sacrifices to maintain their society. The refugees especially ones from countries like Yemen are seen as a group of people that will do harm. They distrust all their neighbours as well, some also think their neighbours are plotting conspiracies against them. One needs to understand Korea's history to understand their current perspective. The Korean people are willing to make sacrifices to their nation because they trust that it would act in the best interests of them and their children, the only way they see this trust being maintained is if it stays homogeneous. Being historically squeezed and attacked, maintaining insular posturing is a survival strategy. From their view, Yemeni refugees are just another attacker part of the arc of Korean history.

From what I understand, South Koreans watches the Migrant Crisis situation in Europe and wants to prevent that from happening in South Korea at all costs, some think a new type of warfare is being waged upon them. They have protest signs saying "Don't be like Europe", "We want to be safe", "Our safety is first". Females seems to be very vocal about the migrants due to the precedent of the migrant crisis in Europe. Different people would view the migrant situation differently but to Koreans, it is apocalyptic. Koreans have a relatively sensitive survival instinct embedded within their society and the migrants triggers that survival instinct.

Government to look at plan to block WhatsApp in militancy-hit areas

The issue was flagged during a meeting held here on Monday, chaired by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, where the recent arrests in connection with the terror attack at Nagrota Army camp in 2016 were highlighted.

THE GOVERNMENT will examine the feasibility of blocking malicious content on WhatsApp and Facebook in militancy-hit areas such as Jammu and Kashmir after it emerged that militants are using the facility to be in constant touch with their handlers across the border, according to officials.

The issue was flagged during a meeting held here on Monday, chaired by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, where the recent arrests in connection with the terror attack at Nagrota Army camp in 2016 were highlighted.

The militants arrested following the attack — from the Jaish-e-Mohammed — have told Jammu and Kashmir Police that they took directions from across the border through WhatsApp calls, it was pointed out.

Seven Army personnel were killed in the attack.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently took custody of three people who had been arrested by the state police for alleged involvement in helping the terrorists, including ferrying them from the border and guiding them to the Army camp.

Top officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), and from security agencies and J&K Police attended the meeting. According to the ministry, the meeting was convened to discuss removal of malicious content from various social networking sites posted by “keypad jihadis who spew venom” on the internet.

The use of internet to make calls has increased problems for the security agencies, as they have been unable to crack it due to end-to-end encryption by the service provider, officials said. The meeting looked at experiences of of some countries, including those in the Gulf, where WhatsApp voice or video calling is not allowed.

According to a statement issued later, the meeting discussed effective measures to be taken by law enforcement agencies to tackle the security challenges posed by terrorists, militants and individuals propagating child pornography using social media platforms.

The meeting also discussed steps to enhance coordination among law enforcement agencies, MeitY and DoT to block and remove malicious content under Sections 69 (power to issue directions for interception or monitoring or decryption of any information through any computer resource) and 79 (limited access to a communication system over which information made available by third parties is transmitted or temporarily stored or hosted) of IT Act.

On Centre’s Request, Twitter Blocks Accounts, Tweets Over Kashmir Content

New Delhi: Twitter has received a complaint from the Modi government, asking it block over 100 accounts and tweets that have been found “propagating objectionable content”. Most of the content and accounts appear to involve Kashmir and Kashmiri issues.

It’s unclear on how many accounts or tweets Twitter has officially blocked. Many of the tweets linked in the official complaint from the ministry of electronics and information technology are still accessible while others lead to suspended accounts.

A few of the handles appear to be linked to terrorist organisations like the Jamaat ud Dawa – a front of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed – but many are of journalists, human rights activists and seemingly unaffiliated individuals.

Multiple local Kashmiri online media reported the development first. WithKashmir.Org in particular reported that multiple Kashmiri activists received an official complaint from Twitter and that several of them have reported that they have either been blocked or shadowbanned.

A partial list of the accounts and tweets the Modi government wanted blocked.

On August 24, 2017, the IT ministry sent a letter to Twitter, asking the company to block the content under Section 69A of the IT Act.

“Based on recommendations of the committee and looking at the sensitivity of the request, it is hereby directed to Twitter to block/remove 115 Twitter handles/tweets in the interest of public order as well as for preventing any kind of cognizable offense…,” the letter states.

Twitter has put both the letter and the list of Twitter content to be blocked online. According to local Kashmiri media, a number of Pakistani users have also received similar warnings from Twitter.

The email sent out by the social media company states that “The correspondence [from the Modi government] claims that your account is in violation of Indian law. Please note we may be obligated to take action regarding the content identified in the complaint in the future. Please let us know by replying to this email as soon as possible if you decide to voluntarily remove the content identified on your account.”

Twitter also seems to acknowledge the haziness of knowing which Twitter accounts are “Indian or Pakistani”. For instance, a tweet that allegedly “pays tribute” to a dead militant shows up with a warning sign that says “this tweet… has been withheld in India”

Amongst the 100 odd objectionable tweets and accounts, one tweet flagged was not about Kashmir at all, but instead focused on rising cow vigilante violence in India.

Social media censorship

Meanwhile, legal and cyber experts have decried the online censorship attempt, with Centre for Internet and Society policy director Pranesh Prakash calling it caving in to unlawful government censorship.

Social media censorship over politically controversial topics is not a new development.

Last year, Facebook ran into controversy over censoring Indian journalists, activists and film-makers over similar “objectionable” Kashmir content. As The Wire had reported at the time, that experience offered insight into the way social media giants view politically controversial material, the way they hand out punishments and – disturbingly – how they act as a final arbiter of what is appropriate and what is not.

Actually they live in a better life that most Indians can only dream of.

They are just upset that these refugees from Yemen would never choose India a superpower in South asia nation :)

Lol what? I've literally had a Korean guy introduce me to his cousin to date. Koreans are pretty chill people in the United States.

Chinese aren't any better at all .
Chinese treatment of Uighur muslims is horrific .

Much better than Muslim in West. At least they are not being stripped naked at beach like in France, or their mosque are not systematically destroyed like in Sweden (or another beacon of religious freedom in West which I forgot the name)

.
In China we live with different ethnic groups with different looks in different clothing for thousands of years and we naturally accept them as fellow Chinese. That is not true in single nation states like Japan and Korea. China has over 100 million ethnic minorities, the number is bigger than the total population of most countries in the world.

The situation becomes different when the refugees are from Middle East and Africa or even Afghanistan. South Korea is doing the right thing by saying no to refugees. These "refugees" have no issue going around mass rape like in Germany where these refugees sexually assaulted nearly a thousand women in a single night
Even Pakistan was messed up by Afghan refugees

Nations exist to protect its citizen and if accepting refugees causes any kind of harm towards its citizens then they should not be accepted. What are Yemenis doing in South Korea anyway? There are enough stable and proesperous countries in Africa and Middle East.

South Koreans even discrimiate against North Koreans, their own flesh and blood, let alone foreigners.

. . .
Looks like East Asians are racist.
Japanese and Koreans are more so than Chinese, they are not used to outsiders. Unlike China , they don't have a history of interacting with peoples of other races.
