NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have urged the international community to investigate the mass graves in Indian Kashmir.
On Wednesday, Khar, Farooq and Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Yaqoob Khan participated in the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir held during the United Nations General Assembly. The OIC Secretary General, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu also attended the meeting.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Khar said that the issue of mass graves was the biggest validation of Kashmiris’ stance on human rights violations “The international community cannot turn away from this issue,” said Khar.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that it was regrettable that the OIC fact finding mission had not been allowed to go to Indian Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters after the OIC meeting, Farooq said that the OIC should pressure the Government of India to allow it to come to Kashmir and investigate the facts. He added that there needed to be progress on Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) on Kashmir.
The APHC leader also urged for the repealing of “black laws” in Indian Kashmir, such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. Farooq said that while Kashmir supports the dialogue between India and Pakistan, he feels that dialogue will not move forward until it is made part of the progress.
Farooq said he was happy that Pakistan’s foreign minister had stated this in the meeting with her Indian counterpart, and said that leaders from Kashmir, from both sides, should be part of the dialogue.

UN rapporteur arrives on fact-finding mission in Kashmir - Rediff.com India News

The United Nations special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions, Christof Heyns arrived on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Monday afternoon.

This is for the first time that the special rapporteur has been allowed by the Indian government to visit the Valley.

Hayns told a news conference immediately after his arrival in Srinagar that his mandate was to visit different countries to ***** the situation on right to life which is fundamental to all other human rights and report back to United Nations Human Rights Commission.

He said he will release the preliminary report in New Delhi on March 30 at the end his visit and submit the final report to the commission.

"During my stay I will be meeting government officials including those from the police, the Army, rights activists, victims and academicians etc."

Chairperson of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons, Parveena Ahangar met the special rapporteur after his arrival.

Senior advocate, Zafar Shah told the media conference "Kashmiri people and civil society have been demanding for the last two decades that UN should visit Kashmir and prepare a fact based report."

He said, "Sweeping powers such as the Public Safety Act and the Armed Forces Special Powers Act were available to the authorities which made normal judicial remedies unavailable to those seeking judicial intervention against misuse of powers by the security forces in Kashmir."

The coalition of civil society members also met the special rapporteur and submitted detailed reports about the human rights situation in the Valley.

He had a close door meeting with relatives of those killed in some highly controversial incidents in the Valley.

Get ready guys, we are going to have a roller coaster ride. This thread has a great potential :D

Bringing Kashmir at this time is idiotic considering there has been relative peace in the disputed region. Let this peace for long time till the volatile people and ideology settles down.

I am quoting the same :bunny:

Dera Bugti: Probe demanded into mass graves

QUETTA:

Nawabzada Jamil Bugti, a son of slain Baloch sardar Nawab Akbar Bugti, has demanded an impartial probe into the recent discovery of a mass grave in Dera Bugti.

A pit has been unearthed containing the bullet-riddled remains of a number of people who were buried unceremoniously, Bugti told a news conference on Saturday.

He accused the security forces of killing scores of Baloch people in Dera Bugti and dumping their bodies in mass graves without burial rites.

“Human rights groups should be allowed access to the restive Dera Bugti area to probe the recently discovered mass grave,” he told the media.

“The federal and provincial governments are shielding the murderers of Nawab Akbar Bugti. The establishment does not acknowledge the supremacy of the judiciary. Where can we expect justice?” he asked.

Referring to the recent arrest of three Bugti tribesmen in the Lyari operation, Jamil Bugti said these men were whisked away by the Frontier Corps in January and were missing since then.

“The forces handed over these men to Karachi police who declared them terrorists and members of Baloch Liberation Army (BLA),” he said. Denouncing the Lyari operation, he said that the Baloch people were victims of aggression and violence since 1947.

Isnt this what they are afraid of... I am enjoying their frustration. They could not get UN to do anything in 1992-93 with full backing of Robin Rafael. Its just a smokescreen now to divert the attention of pakistani citizens from the deteriorating law n order situation.
