The news is too old to some extent as half a year has past. Any new update?

Here. Even their Airforce wants the twin-engined design.
ROKAF Backs Twin-Engine Design for Indigenous Fighter

SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The Air Force has officially expressed its support for a twin-engine concept for the country's indigenous fighter jet development program, saying the design would allow for improved combat capabilities and long-term economic feasibility, officials said Friday.

The move comes amid disagreement over the engine choice for the long-delayed 20 trillion won (US$18.6 billion) project to develop and build some 120 units of F-16 class aircraft to replace the aging fleet of F-4s and F-5s.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration is set to open the bidding process for the fighter project so-called KFX in April, with the goal of reaching an agreement with the preferred bidder by November.
While the specific concept and design have not been confirmed yet, pilots and the potential developer have revealed disagreements over the engine.

During the first meeting of the task force on Tuesday, the Air Force officials delivered an official position in support of a two-engine C-103 concept to improve the aircraft's combat capabilities and long-term economic feasibility, according to a senior Air Force official.

The Korea Aerospace Industries, South Korea's sole aircraft maker and a potential bidder in KFX, has been pushing for the C-501 design, borrowed from T-50 trainer jet that was jointly developed by U.S. aerospace giant Lockheed Martin.
The defense ministry and procurement agency have also shown interest in the single-engine C-510 type to reduce risk of developing a clean sheet design and improve marketability overseas.

These new jets will have a similar level of maneuverability to the current fleet of planes but will be equipped with more advanced radars and other devices.

Based on the progress in aerospace, ground and naval equipment in the last decade, Seoul has sought to design its own fighter jets to help advance its aerospace industry and add indigenous weapons to Korean-designed aircraft.
However, some industry experts and economists questioned the feasibility of the massive project and potential for the future market for the fourth-generation fighters.

Yup, it sounds to me that I am really a very optimistic person, thanks to ALLAH for that.......

Thanks for your info anyway

your welcome.

Can we just sitting down and waiting if this project get a nice result or not?

some people already think they know the exactly cost of the project before a single prototype or even complete road map is made.

your welcome.

All of the road map for KFX/IFX project had been made since 2011, what left is to follow everything what had been decided in the road map itself. For military fansgirl like me, sitting while waiting and following the news about KFX/IFX progress is the best thing i can do

they still have multiply designs to consider and have not decided on exactly what design they want to go forward with. so i would dispute that a definitive road-map is in place. more like a fuzzy guideline.

however, i do understand the part about waiting, many of us experience the same thing when we talk about PLA project. non the less i still wouldnt make statements like "it will cost this much" base on a super early projection, we all know most military cost projections are off anyhow.

C-103 has already decided. If there is another design, as mentioned in above post, it is unofficial one. SK and Indonesia military needs two engines KFX, and they are the owner of the project. There is other design that use two engine which uses canard, but this design needs fly by ware system that can accommodate canard, something that SK and Indonesia are still lack. But I dont know whether they have acquired the technology now after 1 year program postponing as PT Dirgantara Indonesia and SK companies seems to keep continuing the research by their own.

I have read through WIKI about this project. It seems Korea has not decide which one to choose yet, though I agree with you C-103 is better and I'm prone to it, too. Moreover, if KAI win but not ADD, Indonesia may have more talk with Korea, because KAI models do not include 3 stages, and seems your government will join the stage 2 based on ADD models.

C-103 is a work done in the first phase, and Indonesia also has some contribution at the project. It is not right morally if SK put KAI model as the chosen one. It is not favorable both by ADD and Indonesia, and there is no Indonesia's contribution on KAI new concept either. SK has to be in the same level of ambition with us and its own military. C-103 is a long project and will be much more economical in the long run if SK choose it.

"Every effort will be made to move forward with the KFX next-generation fighter project, development of light helicopters and the winning of the US Air Force T-X project," KAI President Ha Sung-yong said during a press conference in Seoul.

The KFX is South Korea's 4.5-generation combat aircraft research and development programme, which was announced by the country's Defense Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) in 2001, with an expected in-service entry date of 2021. The proposed multirole aircraft would be a single-seat, twin-engine design, equipped with stealth features, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar and internal carriage.

S. Korean Firm Claims Development of Wideband Radar Absorbing Material

Mar. 3, 2014 - 12:54PM | By JUNG SUNG-KI

Cony International said it has developed a radar-absorbing material that can be used in development of stealthy fighters, such as for the KF-X project. (Jung Sung-ki)

SEOUL — A South Korean company claims that it has developed a radar absorbing material (RAM) suited to absorption of almost all frequencies.

Cony International, based in Icheon, announced it has developed a RAM with reflectivity lower than -10dB at any frequency.

“The Cony RAM has greater radar absorbency at almost all frequencies,” said Choi Jae-chul, chairman of the company. “This material could be applied to many types of weapons systems, such as fighter jets and warships, for stealth capabilities. It will help improve their survivability and mission capability to a greater extent.”

Korea Maritime and Ocean University evaluated the Cony RAM for its radar cross-section efficiency last November. The absorption rate peaked at a level as high as 98 percent, according to the university.

The national university in Busan is one of the two organizations in South Korea to evaluate the RAM performances. The other is the Agency for Defense Department, affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense.

“RAM generally absorbs radar waves either at a certain frequency or a short range of frequencies,” said Professor Kim Dong-il of the Department of Radio Sciences and Engineering at the university. “But the Cony RAM has been tested to have excellent electromagnetic absorption performance over a wide band.”

The RAM could be used in developing a stealthy fighter jet, Kim said, referring to the country’s KF-X project aimed at developing an F-16 class aircraft with radar-evading stealth capabilities.

Established in 1986, Cony International has long developed microwave absorbing materials both for commercial and military purposes.

In the late 1980s, the company supplied the South Korean Navy with RAMs for warships to resolve electromagnetic interferences.

It also signed a contract with a Middle East nation in 1992 to provide RAMs for fighter aircraft. ■

The latest info on KFX/IFX:
1: It is 2 engine design that is likely to choose, the next step is just to pick the canard or without canard type
2: KFX/IFX should be more superior than SU-35

KFX / IFX program continued , Government Asked to Immediately Selecting Design

Korea was once considered Indonesia engineer do not understand about the design of a jet fighter. But the notion was quickly turned , when the Indonesian team describes the design and the various inputs. The Indonesian side also the one who finally managed to convince that the aircraft take-off weight of 50,000 pounds must .

Confirmation of the Parliament of South Korea on the resumption of the program KFX / IFX team warmly welcomed designers from Indonesia. They include asking both governments immediately call the engineers involved in preparing work that has been long overdue. They also want the governments of both countries to make sure one of the two designs that have been produced in the Technology Development phase for cultivation in the next phase .

"Program KFX / IFX is a multi - program years , costly, and involve various sectors and foreign partners. For that there must be a definite declaration on it goes. For Indonesia it is important to determine the financing schemes and their human resources planning, "said Dr Rais Zain, M. Eng , KFX / IFX Configuration Design Leader for Space , in late January.

"In the near future Indonesia will also work on the N219 and R - 80. We do not have enough engineers to work three programs, especially KFX / IFX will take place until the 2020s. The government is expected to call home engineers who are now working abroad to come help the regeneration process. Outside there are approximately 200 people . If half of it can be returned to the country, it is enough to help, " added Rais who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering ITB, Bandung.

As reported by the national media, the confirmation of the continuation of the program of making front - liner Korean - Indonesian fighter jets received by the Ministry of Defense on January 3, 2014. Notice is further announced Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro told reporters, Wednesday, January 8, 2014, on the sidelines of Rapim Kemenhan in Jakarta. Explanations related to exposure delivered weapon system procurement plans in the Strategic Plan II, 2015-2019.

The Indonesian government hopes the project of making the 4.5 generation fighter jet could be done because it would be a referral program to remove the dependence of the transfer of technology from other countries. Besides KFX / IFX, Indonesia is also pursuing a program of making submarines , warships, propellants , rockets, and tank size medium. For submarines, Indonesia is also cooperating with the same country.

Superior to the Su - 35Program KFX / IFX was stopped temporarily by Korea's new leader Park Geun - Hye end of 2012 after reviewing the state financially in the country. This prestigious project was worked on since the beginning of 2011, shortly after President Lee Myung - bak and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono confirmed the bilateral cooperation in the defense field in Jakarta. From the Technology Development Phase that has been completed, a team of scientists has completed a number of conical design that later became two.

The two designs is a model of the stealth fighter jet -winning twin-engine air superiority with horizontally - tails in the back, and the other one is with canards on the front. "Each has consequences different financing and partners. Thus , it must first be decided which one is selected. It is important that when followed, all parties are ready to do it , "said Rais Zain , whose day-to- day lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering,ITB, Bandung.

As stated Wamenhan Sjafrie, Korean parliament has prepared 20 million U.S. dollars (temporary , Indonesia : $ 5 million) to continue this program in 2015. At that time , the team will go to the Engineering Manufacturing Development Phase. In addition must have a high thrust engine with a power to be able to fight in the air, the aircraft must also have weapons stored in the internal weapons bay , the data - link capable of randomizing communications, advanced radar target voters, and anti - jamming device.

The prototype is expected to finish by the end of the Strategic Plan II . Even if there are things that need to be criticized , it is a matter of operation requirements are much more determined the Korean Air Force . This was inevitable because the Korean bear 80 percent of the funding, and the country actually have a real enemy. This program is targeted to spawn a jet fighter with performance equivalent or superior to the opponent fighter jets which are the Sukhoi Su - 35.

Prerequisites itself dismissed the proposed counter designs KAI ( Korean Aerospace Industrie) recently, rather than to cut development costs are too great. In configuration ( see Space, December 2013 ), looks KFX type E is only one engine powered with weapons outside the radar sweep prone opponent.

Space examine admiration of ADD ( Agency for Defense Development, Defence Research and Development Agency of Korea ) submitted to the Indonesian engineer team. Initially, the team assumes Korea really had no idea about the design of Indonesian fighter jets. However, the assumption was turned when Indonesian engineers began to describe the design and the various inputs to the design of Korea. The Indonesian side also who ultimately ensure that the aircraft must have a takeoff weight of 50,000 pounds.(A.Darmawan/Angkasa magazine).
