I think he means that German cities and lifestyle is very different to that of China, whereas the United States is much more similar. For example, Shanghai and New York City are both huge megacities.

There's 2 lifestyles that Chinese people in general prefer.

They either want to live in a place that's lively, urban and fast paced. That'd be urban China.

Or they want big houses, easy money and consumption. That'd be the US.

Germany doesn't have big houses or American style consumption. But it also doesn't have the fast paced urban lifestyle of China.
