KEVIN Rudd (Australia PM) reveals multi-billion-dollar defence plan

No not as much as you think will go to USA industries.

The towed 115s will possibly M777s but the SP version is a tossup between tracked or wheeled, neither being US origin.
The new Combat Vehicle System built here. Replace the bushmasters.
Aircraft will be US origin.
Helicopters European.
Subs, destroyers and frigates - built here.
Heavy lift hulls built OS rest here.

As for troops, one of the new battalions for the army is already underway and manned. So getting people may be less of a problem than you think.

All the glossy flashy equipment is one thing; unless you understand the underlying philosophy of our defence planning and its directed intent much of the whitepaper will naturally be missed or misguided.

As for global warming, you have been hanging about the pot smoking greens too long.

This would irritate Indonesian government that would in turn increase the amount of purchase orders to Russians and Chinese. I think Aussies may also want to look into Chinese Type 022 missile boats to induct.

.
The Bushmasters were only recently inducted has there been a problem with the vehicle?

.
yh1:
The Chinese Type 022 missile boats are catamaran hulls and there is a specific reason we did not want that type of hull for the fast boats. Also the boats are to ne modular, ie change components ‘in a way’ so a fixed structure is out.
This hull type was also discounted for the heavy lift craft.

JK!
The Bushmaster is an Infantry Mobility Vehicle. Hence their fundamental role is movement of troops to the battle field and then provide support. Troops are dropped off before the target and fight on to it.
In essence the M113 series is the same.

Bradleys/Warriors are Infantry Fighting Vehicles hence here the vehicle fights on to target and then the troops deploy on target.

What Australia is after for the Combat Vehicle System is the next generation of the Bradley/Warrior concept.
So this has little to do with the Bushmaster.

As an IMV the Bushmaster has demonstrated that it fills this role very well. So it s not due to problems of the vehicle it is a doctrine issue
