The only point that is relevant in janon's post is that Americans do not have to wait for Obama to die o seek a peaceful change - and this is a valid criticism of Mr. Assad's Baath party -- Americans are free to be ignorant of the world, this is a freedom they exercise with abandon and Syrian Lion is spot on.
The primary difference between lives of Americans and others, non-Europeans, is that their lives compared to the rest, because of their economic system, is tied to stability, that is to say it's in their best interest to not seek to rock any boat - the weakness of most political set ups in the Middle East and other parts of the world where the government is the primary employer and controls overtly the economic life of citizens, is that not only is it inefficient but exposes governments to the wrath of the citizens.
