Kerala’s Muslim Educational Society bans women from wearing veils on its campuses in India

They are an Institution that have autonomy on imposing a dress code like any other institution in India. Muslim women who wants to wear face veil can look for Muslim schools that allow it. There are prominent Christian Schools that don't allow wearing any sorts of religious symbols including head scarf, cross etc... It's up to their parents where they want to send their kids.

A school management can impose a certain way of dressing for students. I can't say I shouldn't wear red coloured uniform, I can wear whatever I want, it's my fundamental right.

Nobody is stripping women ffs, just imposing a law in private institution.
Uniform , they call it bloody "Uniform" bcos they want to treat every one equally rich/poor, black/white, religion/no religion...etc The whole concept is itself is lost if ppl wear whatever they want.

Firstly, I was just making the point that it is ironic that non-muslim people talk about women rights and they actually want to dictate the dress code for these women. Second point was that all muslims don't have to pay or are even responsible for the wrong doings of some people who claim to be muslim. Muslims don't have to be sorry for anything. It is simple as that.

Lastly please don't talk about islam when you know nothing about islam. As far as what you have came across when it comes to muslim men and women I would say that you have never done any population statistics and you are just making claims.

How many burqa clad women have you interviewed in your life time? It is safe to say 0. Don't make these broad generalizations about muslim women or any women. I doubt you have been to muslim neighborhoods going to every house and asking if they are forced to do things. Hindu women have a lot of issues in their society and you should first fix those. Then come to muslim women and talk about equality.

dress code is not religious. it is cultural

You know that they aren't following islam. Muslims by far suffer most at the hand of these khwarij but you don't bring these figures up. So, why do you keep relating one to the other? Either you are confused and don't understand what you are saying. Or you are doing it on purpose.

This is nothing but an excuse.

1 These people are Muslims
2 They use Quranic Texts to justify their actions
3 When they commit these acts they don't say "Jesus is Great" or "Jai Shree Ram" , they say "Allah Hu Akbar"

Tell me how they are NOT muslims

You forget I live in a country with 15% Muslim Population. I can see with my own eyes .How in Muslim localities there are women who do not wear the Burqa and also women who enter the metro station wearing a burqa and then duck into a washroom and come out wearing jeans and T-shirts and board their trains to trendy malls.

You are right in saying that I have NOT spoken to a Burqa clad lady because I feel uncomfortable speaking to someone who I cannot see. The facial cues are very important part of non verbal communications

Burqa are part of society/culture where women were child bearing machines/objects of honor, women did not talk to men (who are not their relatives) and where women are not meant to be productive citizens

If you read the article. They are not making an autonomous decision. The decision is based on "public" opinion and it is a push for assimilation. Not exactly democratic.. Either way it doesn't matter my original point still holds. The point is that a place that champions women's rights also is using the law to trample on these rights.
Whatever they base their decision, it doesn't matter. They maybe basing this on public opinion or security, but they have the right to do that because it is their institution. I don't know how democracy comes to play here. Besides, I don't need to read the whole article, I live in the state. And like I said, people have the right to make choice of not sending their kids to this institution if they can't have face veil for girls.

Yes, they champion women rights and have provided education to a lot of Muslim girls, gave them jobs, covering their face with veils is not one of them, and as an institution they have the right to believe face veils are regressive. As they said, quote "It is not in the culture of Mappila (Muslims of Kerala) to have face veils."

The Muslim Educational Society in Kozhikode has issued a circular prohibiting female students from wearing veils in its institutions across the country, The News Minute reported on Thursday. The group runs 35 colleges and 72 schools, and has around one lakh students on its rolls.

Muslim Educational Society President PA Fazal Ghafoor issued the circular on April 17, but media reports emerged only on Thursday. The circular, while banning veils that cover faces, adds: “Institution heads and officer-bearers of the local management of the institutions should be vigilant.”

The circular quotes a Kerala High Court order from December 2018, which dismissed a plea filed by two female students of Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram, seeking to wear headscarves and full-sleeve shirts. The High Court, upholding the school’s refusal to grant permission for such clothing, said in its order that collective interest must supersede individual interest.

“According to the High Court order, female students should not wear garments that cover their face,” the Muslim Educational Society circular said. “This should be implemented without giving way to controversy.”

The circular said it is necessary to discourage all “undesirable practices on the campuses”, The Times of Indiareported. “Dresses that are unacceptable to the mainstream society, whether modern or religious, cannot be promoted,” it added.

Ghafoor told The Times of India that the circular had nothing to do with the Sri Lankan government’s decision to ban face veils in the aftermath of the serial bombings that killed 253 people. He said the decision to ban veils was taken before the Sri Lankan government’s order.

The circular said that the new rule should be implemented from the 2019-’20 academic year.

President of religious organisation Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, Sayyid Muhammad Jifri Muthukkoya Thangal, opposed the circular. “The Muslim Educational Society has no right to interfere in religious practices,” he said. “Unlike Samastha, they’re not an organisation entitled to make those kinds of statements.”

Ghafoor had courted controversy in 2014 by claiming that veiling was un-Islamic and a western import. He had also said that wearing the niqab continuously can cause Vitamin D deficiency in Muslim women.

On Wednesday, an editorial in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana had called for a ban on face coverings throughout the country, arguing that this might pose a danger to national security. However, the party later distanced itself from the editorial.

This is the Kerala, you RSS IT cell bigots portrayed as valley Kashmir like.

Did you also say that about the invasions of Iraq, Syria and Libya ??

Noone's invaded kerala so your question is pointless.

Burqa are part of society/culture where women were child bearing machines/objects of honor, women did not talk to men (who are not their relatives) and where women are not meant to be productive citizens

^ The anti-islamic western people and the liberals from our own societies are always united in their hatred towards Muslim women. It's not surprising that these haters and traitors support the ban together.

. . .
In the big picture, Malayali women have only just started to cover their faces. The earlier it's prevented, the better.

Not only Malayali women, most Indian Muslim women, in fact many Muslim women in the world have adopted the niqab in the last ten or so years.

This is mostly due to the increase of the irritating Tableeghi Jamaats.
