I know it's for North Indians. Hence it can't be a law to encompass the whole India. Not all Indians have gotra or follow them.

Read what you said - or made binding on parties unwilling to comply.
It can be made binding on parties unwilling to comply, just not by the courts or the police.
Muslim converts of jaats/ rajputs/ gujjars of UP also follow the gotra thing. That's right. A few south Indians have it too, but its not followed so strictly. It would go against the sprite of Common Civil code which is the dream.
Was talking about the ability to get compliance through legal methods alone. Even the pressure that you suggest might happen can only be if they do not seek protection of the court or change area of residence. Any further action outside of this sphere is similar to threatening violence on any & all issues, not something that would be a matter of rational discussion.
Muslim converts of jaats/ rajputs/ gujjars of UP also follow the gotra thing.
It's strictly practised .. but things are changing.I was not aware of that. But I wonder if its strictly practised. I assume there would be religious and cultural opposition to it.
On the contrary it is subjects that cause violence that SHOULD be the subject of Rational discussion.
Law cannot disregard social, cultural and religious realities in India. The Law should recognize the tribal, cultural, social, religious realities and should accommodate space for them. If it fails to do so, people will have no choice BUT to opt for violence.
Law exist to SERVE the people, NOT to Oppress. .
Whatever their faith, however illogical should have space in the law as long as it does not infringes upon the rights of others
That opens up everything to that threat. Violence can be threatened on every matter & compliance so obtained. Some of that matters you may be in agreement with, others you may not. You can't get to pick & choose who , why & on what matter people may wish to enforce their writ by violence. People can be threatened with violence for opting for divorce or inter-caste marriages. You may be fine with that, I'm not. I believe the state can & will be called to intervene and I support any such intervention.
It does. Hence the discussion or do you think some people deserve to have their rights take away because of the circumstances of their birth?
We have a fundamental disagreement on the position you take. Don't see a point in labouring on this topic any more.
Thanks..Yes I know, that is the reason I am wishing you now as I may not be able to wish later on. So take it in a lighter vein....
And on a serious note, why can't you accept facts. Yes there are problems in India like any other country but denying them as some conspiracy is what I call absurd. OK so media is doing the damage, let's ban it and the problem is solved.. What say?
I hope you are....Thanks..
Every one knows the problem. I am more interested in solution.
Yes you are right it is personal decision. I stated my personal opinion. I do not intend to force anyone to follow my opinion. Those who subscribe to that belief can choose not to marry but there is no bar in law to those who do not subscribe. Incest is defined very narrowly in law, does not extend to non-close relations. Not all communities have similar rules, not everyone follows the same pattern.
It's strictly practiced .. but things are changing.
so the basic fact of indian economic system continuing interest-upon-loans is really a very socialist ideal which i haven't understood.
yes, and magical beams shine from the sky and exterminate every injustice in indian society as soon as it is created by anti-nationals and evil foreign agencies.
your pakistani wife must be really tolerant... i talk about your callous and pro-sangh attitude.
and that clear cut agenda is??
May be it was/wasn't posted as thread but I do remember someone discussing about it on PDF... Even going by your word what is so wrong in posting it....

But i think who intend to marry in same gotra should at least do DNA test before marriage. So that future complications in children can be avoided.
