What's new

Kerala Corner

I just read that the Kerala government banned liquor sales outside it's 5 star resorts.. IMHO Kerala is the most laid back and serene regions of India, How would this affect the state, Especially given that tourism is a major industry there as well.. @nair @SrNair @Chronos @kbd-raaf etc..

Country toddy is still avaliable, plenty of it .

Tourists mainly aims Alleppey (my district :D) and Kuttanad for calmness .
And hotels in there presents some of the best food items in the World .:D

IF you want other liquors ,five star hotels are still in there :D
Their is no ban in there .

Banning affected other industries and tough competition from new SriLankan tourism is also a problem :D

It was result of an ego clash between 2 morons.... The chief minister and party president.....

Not an outright ban but banning in 420 odd bars which are below 5 start status..
They have been converted to Beer and Wine parlours..

And if you are adament on buying liquor there is a liquor store in every small town, municipality and corporations with numbers higher depending on the geography and population of that city or town....Anybody , i mean anybody is free to buy 3 litres of Whiskey, Brandy, Gin, Vodka or Rum , beer of his choice....And if you want more than 3 litres, buy the first 3 litres, go out drink a tea or smoke a cigreatte and go back to shop and buy the 3 litres again from same shop....

Pity.. This will force people to illicit liquor which will be more damaging.. You cant force people for prohibitions, That leads them to seek for alternatives

Yes i have been to Allepuza (sic) and Cochin.. Some of the most serene places in India.. The people of Kerala makes it even a better experience

Oh ok.. From what i read it seemed to imply a total ban except for 5 star resorts.. Will try and post the link

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 23 (IANS) Kerala Tourism's pavilion themed on the famous snake boat race has bagged an award in the destination category along with Mexico, Japan and Nepal at FITUR, the second largest travel and tourism fair in Spain.

The Kerala pavilion won the best stand award for design, communication and professionalism at the 36th edition of the five-day FITUR that ends on Sunday.

The event was attended by 9,500 companies from 165 countries.

The Kerala pavilion, which was adorned by two replicas of the snake boat, was one of the most-photographed pavilions.

"The award for our pavilion is a huge honour for our state," said Kerala's Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar, who led the state delegation at FITUR.

Four co-exhibitors, representing the state's private tourism and hospitality sector, took part in the pavilion, built on a 60 square metre area.

The pavilion was conceived and designed by Stark Communications, the marketing agency of Kerala Tourism and executed by art director Sabu Sivan and his team.

Kerala Tourism's principal secretary G. Kamala Vardhana Rao termed it a "significant international honour bestowed at the world's second most important travel and tourism industry event".

FITUR, organised by Madrid's trade fair organisation or IFEMA (Feria de Madrid), was held at the IFEMA Convention Centre, one of the biggest exhibition grounds in the world.
