Worse, they did not convert the Muslims into Hindus or Sikhs when they had the chance. The Muslim kings of Kashmir at least forced Islam down on people's throats. After the war, the Muslim ex Dogra Army folks saw a chance of Hindu-free Kashmir after the existence of Pakistan (and also because they had nothing better to do)

The only difference in this Islamist insurrection was that in most of Kashmir they failed. The areas in the North for example did not see a single non Muslim return alive.* The entire Indian garrison and the on Muslim folks of (even) Skardu perished.

The massacres of Muslims in Jammu was nothing unusual either. Unlike docile Kashmiri Hindus (and Muslims), exiled Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs (or what remained of them) had enough thirst for vengeance. They decided to do what they thought was necessary for their survival and continued peace. In retrospect, they secured their future. While the Valley remains tense, Jammu itself is almost entirely peaceful today.

I will blurt out the blunt and gory details. Some will suit you. Some won't.

Mukti Bahini was India perfecting Pakistan's idea of using lashkars in our territory. We should expand that program again. Perhaps we are doing it now.

* I am not crying victim here. The Muslim rebels did what they thought they had to do. They did when they overpowered the forces against them. It was a war. That continues to this day. In the end only one side will remain. Unlike the Kashmiri Hindus, the rest of the Indian non Muslims have enough fight left in them.

So if (or rather when) some part of some place becomes Muslim majority, it will belong to the Ummah and any Islamic independence movement will become legitimate.

Not only ex dogra soldiers but also vets of the colonial army poonch,mirpur region was a major recruiting area for them and the reason why the rebellion started was because of brutal taxes by dogra regime the dogras again resorted to the brutal suppresion to stop this rebellion which backfired badly

The massacre in jammu was state sanctioned to control a certain demographic it was after the refugees from jammu arrived in regions that make up southern ajk is when hindus started to leave this place entire villages were abandoned and repopulated by refugees
They were ethnically similar to us but unlike us they didnt have the luxury of being armed and prepared so they were sitting ducks for the dogra sponsored juthas

And that was the stupid policy. Conversion is the antidote. Restrictions only postpone the inevitable. Mughals made the mistake. Sikander in Kashmir did not.

The Hindus took a beating everywhere except in pockets like Jammu where they were more successful due to the influx of Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs. I am not disputing your points.

Sir respectfully i would like to say regarding the J&K area and Gilgit-Baltistan these two areas are completely culturally different they have different traditions different way of living and different way of living they also speak different languages although in Gilgit-Baltistan they speak 18 different languages also when the revolt against the maharaja happened the freedom fighters struck first capturing all main garrisions and then moving further to Kashmir. They stopped at a very short distance from Srinagar because the government asked them to halt the advance of forces I know this because my grandfather participated in the war and was on the front line he told me that they occupied all the mai streegic moutains and passes and if they were not ordered to stop they would have been able to liberate srinagar and probably most of J&K.
