BBC News - Kashmir leader 'denied' Pakistan visa

Dec 21 2009

Mehbooba Mufti has visited Pakistan in the past

A leading politician in Indian-administered Kashmir has been denied a visa to visit Pakistan, her spokesman has said.

Mehbooba Mufti, leader of the main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), had been invited to a conference in Islamabad, her spokesman added.

Ms Mufti has visited Pakistan twice in recent years, her spokesman said.

There has been no response so far from the Pakistan high commission in India to the statement.

Ms Mufti spokesman said that the leader had been invited by an NGO to a conference in Islamabad.

Several other pro-India Kashmiri leaders, including chief minister Omar Abdullah, have also visited Pakistan recently.

Cannot think of a reason why she was denied.

She's Indian. (not to mean that all Indians are denyed visas to Pakistan, though there may be other reasons...) I suspect since she's a popular figure in Kashmir (supporter of INDIA ofcourse)

Good, these Indian-tools do not represent the views of the Kashmiris or the Muslims!

Okay, buddies, let's calm down. We have a lot of security threats to worry about right now, she may have been rejected a visa on those grounds. Or, her paperwork could be incomplete. It could be any of a million reasons, but of couse, her spokesman wouldn't let this opportunity to malign Pakistan let go that easily. It clearly states that she's visited before, which should clear up any doubts about our "openness".

As for her being a famous Kashmiri politician, I highly doubt it. She is, after all, pro-Indian (and hence, anti-Kashmir cause).

With all due respect for a moderator of the forum, Iam not amazed that you'd doubt it. The fact that she was elected in an election which say above 50% voter turnout is hard to believe for an average Pakistani fed on stories of Indian occupation in Kashmir.

Funniest interpretation, if a Kashmiri elected representative have a pro Indian view then he does not represent the view of Kashmir. If anyone says I favor Pakistan he represents the view. lol.

These guys have never been elected by people other than rallies (where people turn for food also), they have nothing to say they represent the people.

So now we will see new definition of Kashmir good Kashmiri (that supports Pakistan) and bad (that supports India).

Given that India is one of the two 'options' why is, being pro-Indian is being anti-Kashmir cause?

Typical Pak cognitive dissonance.

Do you really think free and fair elections could be held in Kashmir under 5-6 lakh indian army boots monitoring every street corner?

Dont insult your intelligence and that of the kashmiris.

Well sir, everyday you learn new things. Today I learned a new lesson in analytical reasoning.

Pro-Indian Kashmiri = Anti-Kashmir :hitwall:

So when one separatist Kashmir leader says we are Pakistani he becomes a Kashmir savior since you guys judge him so and you guys understand J&K people so well.

And we who study with them, live with them and are friends with them can't understand that.

Sir with due respect being Pro-Indian or Pro-Pakistani doesn't make anyone Anti-Kashmir. They are living in a democratic environment and they have a right to hold personal views. Only thing not allowed is they enforcing their personal views on other people by force. :toast_sign:

Look at it this way:

Partitioned from India as a homeland for the subcontinent’s Muslims in 1947, the rationale behind Pakistan’s foundation - that Muslims and Hindus could not coexist in one nation - was immediately impeached when India refused to become a Hindu state and embraced a secular constitution...... As long as Kashmir, a Muslim-majority state, remains part of secular India, Islamic Pakistan’s sense of itself as the authentic home of India’s Muslims can not not be vindicated.....

Pakistan has waged three wars to wrest Kashmir from India, but the experience of defeat led Islamabad to adopt a policy of training terrorist organizations..... Since 1993, Afghanistan has been a training camp and launching pad for anti-India terrorism. But the ambitions of the terrorist groups that Pakistan created to bleed India have broadened: their operations now stretch to Europe and the United States and their leaders have openly stated the desire to take up the “struggle with the Jews’’ once Kashmir is secured.

Far from buying peace, Kashmir’s acquisition by Pakistan will be seen as a major victory by the Islamists....so anyone who goes against their idea ....its a traitor......be it a Kashmiri.....or for that matter even Pakistani....

You haven't been there so you don't know. Do you mean to say that the security forces dragged half of the eligible people to come out and vote? People there are sick of violence and they don't care who does it. All they know is that the daily violence has screwed up their lives. Elections gave them a ray of hope and a chance to elect their own representatives and they took it.

Too bad the Hurriyat boycotted the elections as usual. But that wasn't unexpected knowing that they will tow the line laid down by their Pakistani masters.

And what about the threats from separatist groups warning people not to vote? I am sure you can justify that.
