Pakistani, Kashmiri call for solution of UN resolution on Kashmir in Chicago

CHICAGO – Speakers at a well-attended meeting organised by the Chicago Pakistan Consulate General, to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day, called for a peaceful settlement of the decades-old Kashmir dispute based on United Nations resolutions.

The day commemorates the just struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination and to honour the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the struggle to attain their inalienable right to freedom. Consul General Faisal Niaz Tirmizi reaffirmed Pakistan's moral, political and diplomatic support for a just and peaceful solution of the Indian-held Jammu Kashmir (IHK) dispute, and called for an end to violence and human right abuses in Indian-held Kashmir.

He assured members of the Kashmiri community in Midwest that the government of Pakistan stood behind Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their valiant struggle for self-determination. He told the audience that Indian has not reciprocated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's desire to improve bilateral relations, and had, in fact, intensified its shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary targeting innocent civilians.

Prominent members of Pakistan community in Chicago Major (r) Hafizullah, Rizwan Kadir, Abdullah Khurram, Dr Teepu Siddique also addressed the meeting and reaffirmed the support of the Pakistani-American community to the Kashmiri people. They urged the world community to take serious notice of the plight of the Kashmiri people and push for the realisation of a settlement in conformity with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
