Hi, I am just replying for debate purposes.

I don't think the problem is that Hindus and Muslims can't live together. Rather it is the problem that under hindutva rule, or one groups law over others we can't live together. For example if you look at Jinnahs early life you will see that he was a proper congress man. He supported a united india till 1940 I think until there was a marked difference in his attitude and he joined muslim league. What he stood for even in those times was muslim majority provinces to govern themselves, cow slaughter be allowed for muslims and other muslim concerns. When it became clear that India was not ready to budge or give even limited rights to muslims he fought for an independent Pakistan.

The failure here actually was that of the Hindus who refused to give muslims equal rights. In this they failed not just the muslims but a united india because all they had to do was provide us with some rights and maintain a united india. I think a good read in this matter would be jaswant singhs book on partition. It blames Nehru for the debacle.

I would say it is possible for hindus and muslims to live together in proper conditions. Like Hindus and Muslims do come together to celebrate holi in Pakistan while a picture was posted today of religious harmony in Indian occupied regions. In the west muslims and hindus share foods and sit with each other. Some of my good friends were Hindus. So its all about the right conditions. But Hindutvas insecurity is causing peopl to ask for another partition. Muslims are allergic to Modi. We blame him for most of the violence and anti muslim policies.
