Kargil ghosts still stalk India’s military

The Army is above such inquires in Pakistan. Kargil is only one such episode.. it took twenty years for the report on 71 to come out. Even officers that wish to cooperate and improve their processes are put aside by people like Musharraf. Essentially there is massive intellectual and moral corruption towards the top in the Pakistan Army and sadly it is systemic.. so even if there are good officers that make it to the top, they find this lack of initiative and lax attitude along with self preservation ingrained in the "aura" of the GHQ.

The more one tries to learn these things, the more intriguing they become.
I always believe that an institute within a society or a nation cannot be bigger than that.
perhaps one day, i'll learn a bit more about what actually went in minds of General Musharaff and his peers during Kargil, from u sir.

what was the goal and how was it met?
India did threaten to widen the conflict which led to US brokered peace. May be you should revisit the events, it did not happen too long ago. Or wait for US declassification of documents.
If we had met serious challenge in kargil, other front was only option left to us.

SInce that stretch of LOC was not occupied in the winter ; it is quite logical
that PA would try to occupy it ; some day

Kargil 's importance lies in the Road to Siachen ; that was the AIM of PA

Very rightly said.. Kargil was of strategic importance.
Looking from a neutral and logical point, It would be stupid of Pak army to not occupy any vacant land in midst of war zone and I believe same goes with India, as they did in Siachen.
I would not hesitate to say, that Pakistani maneuver was a copy of (earlier) Indian maneuver.
