Exclusive: Karate close in on spot at 2015 European Games programme

Monday, 10 December 2012
By Tom Degun

December 10 - Karate's bid for a place on the programme at the 2020 Olympic Games has been given a major boost after the sport signed a Letter of Intention (LOI) with the European Olympic Committees (EOC) to appear at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015.

Karate is now likely to be confirmed as one of only two non-Olympic sports when the full programme is finalised next March following the decision by the EOC in Rome last week to stage a European Games.

The other non-Olympic sport at the European Games is set to be dancesport, as revealed exclusively by insidethegames.

So Taekwondo and Karate makes it into the European Games(The European version of Asian Games), Wushu does not.

The following sports have been confirmed for the first event in Baku in 2015.[2]
Archery
Badminton
Boxing
Canoeing
Fencing
Handball
Judo
Rugby sevens
Shooting
Taekwondo
Table tennis
Triathlon
Volleyball

WTF, no track and field? no soccer?

It's always easier to get the sport in at the beginning than later.

I don't understand why China's missing this opportunity, if they are really serious about getting Wushu in the Olympics as they say.

Wushu is more like a martial show and rather a art than competition. Karate is certainly like Judo and boxing.

That's Wushu's marketing point at the IOC; that Wushu is primarily a gymnastics competition unlike beat-them-ups like Taekwondo and Karate.

Korea to honor Neetu Chandra - Times Of India

Korea to honor Neetu Chandra
TNN Dec 13, 2012, 02.21PM IST

It's a known fact that actress Neetu Chandra is also a martial arts expert and she has already won three black belts in Taekwondo, a Korean martial art. She has now won her fourth black belt in the art and the Korean Government is coming down to Delhi to honour Neetu for her massive feat.

Neetu Chandra is the first Indian lady to achieve this. Meanwhile, she is currently in Poland to shoot for a song from Aadhi Bhagavan, her upcoming Tamil film alongside Jayam Ravi. The weather in Poland isn't good enough for shooting and there are possiblilties that the shooting of the already in the making for a long time 'Aadhi Bhagavan' might be postponed.

Neetu tweeted yesterday "The weather in Poland is really bad- no sun- AB shoot might postpone." 'Aadhi Bhagavan' is being helmed by Ameer and Yuvan has given the music.

Korea busy marketing Taekwondo in India using Indian movie stars.

Wushu fighting uphill battle

Don't start planning those Olympic wushu-watching parties just yet.

The sport is a long way from becoming an official event at the Games, said the head of the umbrella organization for Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations.

"That's a difficult question. They are very far (from getting in the Olympics) now," SportAccord president Hein Verbruggen said on Thursday on the sidelines of the World Mind Games in Beijing.

Despite its growing international popularity, the combat sport derived from traditional Chinese martial arts faces stiff competition in the reserve pool.

Olympic axing rumours leave shuttlers unruffled
Ace shuttlers dismiss speculation the sport is to be dropped from 2020 Games programme

Players in the World Super Series finals in Shenzhen appeared unfazed by speculation badminton is facing the axe from the 2020 Olympic Games programme.

Either badminton or table tennis - the two sports dominated by Chinese athletes - is rumoured to be facing the axe, while boxing and modern pentathlon are also said to have questionable futures.

Chinese Dominated Sports = First to be booted from the Olympics.

Kindly try not to side Taekwondo with Karate.

Karate is serious sports, not like some dogfight game Taekwondo.

Although the chance of Karate getting into the 2020 games is slim(Squash is the favorite), I am complimenting Japan's persistent 30 year effort to get Karate into the Olympics, going as far as adopting Taekwondo style rules in Kumite like requiring a body armor and a head gear, and different points for different attacks, like 1 point for punches, 2 points for kicks to the body, and 3 points to head kicks to promote more kickings. Granted Karate competitors are complaining why the WKF is trying to make Karate look like Taekwondo bout, but WKF are making changes based on the feedbacks from the IOC.

Now, what has China done to promote Wushu world wide? Nothing. So Wushi will not become an Olympic sport.

.
I agree and wonder why the Chinese want to promote Wushu in Olympic events. It's basically a show and China is already dominating Gymnastics.

.
then?
does it matter ?
who do care ?
for gaining medals we don't need to put wushu into olympics
in London 2012 China has gained 88 medal while South Korean was 28
in Beijing 2008 China has gained 100 medals and South Korean was 31
in Athens 2004 China has gained 63 medals while South Korean was 30

well done South Korean
even SK puts tae kwon do into Olympic Game but never overtake China on medal ranking
