I feel people should discuss the solution to the problem
Some of the things Mustafa Kamal mentioned (I dont follow any of his politics but he seems to know what he is talking about in this topic, not sure)
- logistic issue, distance between a garbage generation point and landfill sites (there are 2) , round trip is 6 hours
- during his time, they did a study of big cities worldwide and identified 5 location in Karachi for a Garbage Transfer Station, GTS (in between landfill and generation point, transit point which is covered , and has segregation belts for recyclable and non-recyclable items), these stations reduces the time for truck to collect garbage from generating point to unload it at the GTS and come back within 30 minutes which means frequency of pick up is higher compared to 6 hours round trip
- The 5 location should be utilized and start preparing those locations for garbage collection with the appropriate machines
- if Mayor is not working then provincial government should make him accountable
- Solid Waste Management board should be under Union Council not provincial government
- not bring Chinese companies because they only outsource it to the locals, they take more money and give small percentage to locals they hire so better to spend that amount the equipment and build the system
- don't take short cut , fix the system
- i saw another interview he did with ARY a few weeks ago (early Aug or late July) where he spoke that the different jurisdiction in the city means its difficult for one person to be held accountable , this system should change so the Mayor can be kept in charge of all areas and he should be held accountable
