What's new

Karachi must form new party with new mandate

as MQM is not trying to address that, Karachi people should come forward who want to save this one of the largest cities in the world, form a political front and put forward these following points

1) Karachi must have an autonomous status and its should have autonomy (like hongkong in china) so that it addresses its migration, population, law and order and many things

2) karachi only shares similar currency, army with Pakistan otherwise it should be otherwise free

3) karachi should have independece over its revenue and the revenue generated should be spent in Karachi and karachi alone

4) laws of Karachi should be different than laws of Pakistan which reflect Karachi's own interest

5) the pakistanis coming into karachi should have special permits and anybody just cannot be allowed to stay in karachi permanently

6) after five years there should be a proper referendom on karachi whether it wants to politically separate from Sindh and declared as autonomous region of Pakistan if things don't work out with people's party of sindh in provnce and PMLN in the federal

i totally disagree with MQM's politics of making alliances with other parties and that it doesn't demand separation of karachi even as a separate province, MQM doesn't get karachiites to enjoy their own local government, karachiites have no authority in law enforcement, karachiites have to suffer brutal quota system, Karachi has to suffer acquairing government jobs, Karachiites can get to have their own city funds spent on it, there is complete ethnic separation and isolation and an ethnic hegemony in all matters related to the business of karachi, so if karachiites can't be given a free space to control their own city than karachi must be declared as an autonomous self sustaining city

i think if within five years MQM fails to get Karachiites to have more powers, Karachiites must form another karachi based political party to put forward these demands, if the city is to survive in future
Thank you for opening, a testing Pandora box!
But, I think, MQM needs to gain it's space in the political grounds in fedrl capital,
It should show pakistanis , that it stands with them, & doesn't make deals with the political mafia of PMLN or PPP, it's has the power to , give nut kick to both?
Like up coming opposition moment, if MQM starts playing wisely, & kick the ball right time, all these stupid political mafia, s would be listening to MQM, & surly giving back what ever MQM may wants?
Specially in the future!

.
Actually what most disturb the normal supporters ( not blind ) the attitude or stance of MQM about alliance with PPP, I think majority of supports don't like that alliance, other hand mqm gets nothing if stay in opposition including funds ( the funds distributed by relevant ministries to relevant institute )
It's very early to say anything as mqm alliance with PPP just few month back and prime minister also allocated a package for Karachi transport etc. Personally my concern is about holding of local bodies elections are more priority as other small institutes could get proper funds. Let's see how mqm make PPP ready to do it quickly. A piece of good work done by Mistafa Kamal when president Mushraff give all authorities to local bodies.

Regret to say that based on my personal experience; Karachi is divided on ethnic lines.

Majority of the population, that is Gujarati & Urdu speakers, support MQM (a section of Urdu speakers also supports JI). Pashtuns support ANP & the rest are PPP supporters. There is also a large numbers of Punjabis who have adopted Karachi as their home but these are not vociferous, spread out all over Karachi and without any prominent politician among them.

Voting based on ethnicity is evident from the fact that when MQM decided to boycott local elections; JI won the municipal elections because Urdu speaking MQM supporters voted for JI. Likewise, when MQM were wailing against the spread of Taliban, ANP leader Shahi Syed supported Talban regardless of the fact that Pushtun Taliban were killing ANP cadre in the KPK. There was a time when, Pashtun riflemen at Kati Pahaari were shooting at trouser wearing passers-by assuming them to be Urdu speakers; Pashtuns normally wear shalwar.

I had hoped Imran Khan would provide a new leadership but rightly or wrongly, he gives the impression that he treats Urdu Speakers with disdain and he loves Taliban. In my opinion, PTI is never going to be a major force on the Karachi political scene; PTI support restricted to the so called ‘Burger’ crowd belonging to the upper middle class.

Based on this ground reality, unless a truly charismatic leader such as ZAB rises again, personally I don’t see any change in Karachi political scene.

Benefits? Can you elaborate this..?:what:

they can solely work towards securing the rights people of mohajirs / urdu speakers mostly located in urban areas of Sindh these people have supported them long enough however they have paid the highest in blood and property loss or damages since last many years.

Oh and btw @W.11 i wanted to troll you so bad for this thread, but i will let it go. :D

Its not worth it. If you explain to him how real world works he then feels cornered and claws his way into a ban. I for one would like to keep hearing these jems. He could be our city's next london based skyper in the near future.

the only way you do all that by Mohajirs supporting PPP, no matter what happens PPP will always have govt in Sind and any other party will not get anything from PPP

The reality is politics all over Pakistan is on ethnic lines .. MQM represents urdu speakers who in my opinion have nothing in common with others and vice versa , they belonged to a different geographical area and relocated here religion was used than however sooner the equation failed , MQM tried forming mutehda but the problem has now intensified

.
I totally disagree with you because karachi is the backbone of pakistan without it the countrys economy would collapse so there no question on whether karachi would use its own revenue
Secondly if karachi is given an autonomous status it wont be long before it seeks independence. It can be given provincial status and it would truly flourish then. I myself am from a political family my father is a renowned politician( wont disclose his name ) and i know the insides of politics and why karachi is part of sindh. If karachi is to be made a province first mqm needs to be controlled otherwise there would be chaos. I wont go into details
Third the only city that can get autonomous status is gwadar and that too until it starts to flourish and then turn it into a separate province. But till then pakistani laws should not apply there eg ban on alcohol etc.
And i fully agree with you karachi needs its own voice which is not due ti religion or ethnicity rather on being a karachiite.
Well it could be kpv ie karachiites political voice?

I cant understand this point that a country which itself is at crossroads where three diff asian cultures meets at Indus, that has such good common language in Urdu (that can be understood everywhere if not spoken) has that prob uptill now;that it cant integrate a community that itself is very diverse. Mohajirs themselves are a varied bunch there are Gujratis who have historical cultural ties with Sindh etc. All mega cities are diverse like that this is not an anomaly actually diversity is power of big cities as everyone bring something new to table.

Karachi isnt the only place where immigrants landed! What next? FATA demand the same and followed by Baluchistan and Punjab? Phir Pakistan ka kiya faedah? India mein hi apni basti mein rehtay! Mind you....you didnt move to Broken states of Pakistan so stop trying to do that!

What Karachi needs is a person who can drill unity in their brains and put aside their differences to live hamonously!

4) laws of Karachi should be different than laws of Pakistan which reflect Karachi's own interest
Why?

5) the pakistanis coming into karachi should have special permits and anybody just cannot be allowed to stay in karachi permanently
why? It is unethical to question any Pakistani about his whereabouts! Tumhari baap ki zameen nai hai! Humara Pakistan hai! Humara meaning yours and mine not yours alone get that out of your head!

Each and every point dipped in selfishness!

who knows he already is

Karachi just needs the decent amount of revenue for fast development and up-keeping the growing economy. The more you put into Karachi the more you will get back into Pakistan economy as a whole. There is a lot of potential.

Unfortunately, the people fail to realize this by keep voting for PPP (who has done squat for Sindh, let alone Karachi), and MQM being Karachi only party it will never be able to do anything for Karachi without decisive support in Sindh.

Oh and btw @W.11 i wanted to troll you so bad for this thread, but i will let it go. :D
The people need to stop flowing with the ethnic attitude! The whole country is divided based on ethnicity and even votes are given based on where someone originated from rather than who will benefit Karachi!

most of the country is conservative right wing whereas urdu speaking are comparatively moderate and left leaning .. with little control over law and order , money or control over city locals managing their affairs ... the people are getting increasingly frustrated thus why there are serious issues and bad sentiment amongst people in general

Anyone with a lick of sense and know how of how things work can determine that karachi can not become a singapore on it own. It will probably become worse off with this amount of population and the already present security threats. The frustrations are justified, but countering them with brains rather than emotions is whats required. Being more educated than the punjabi's is not going to make a singapore. Being a whole lot more educated than the singaporians will make a singapore. And for that you do not have to lose the lands that can be used to become better rather than secluding yourself within city limits which is nothing more than a fantasy.
