@Meywish Hayat.. Pay your taxes. Resources for a modern city like Karachi is lower than other poor middle cities else where in South Asia.

Please expect a ultramodern city when you allocate suitable budget for it. Right now it's people are somewhat rich but its govt is dead poor.

Karachi municipal budget 2020-21: 24.84 billion PKR (<$150 million)

Mumbai municipal budget 2020-21: 334.41 billion INR ($4.5 billion)

Visakhapatnam municipal budget 2020-21: 41.71 billion INR ($550 million) (population < 1.5 million)

You can allege corruption and what not, but clearly the people are stingy in paying the taxes for their own city. Governments cannot make money out of thin air. They spend what we give them in taxes.

Population of Karachi? Comparing to Vizag.. both are port cities.. not aware of Karachi population..

Karachi is a economic and shipping hub of pakistan, why this city is surviving on just 150 million $, that is pathetic I many times hear Karachi provides more revenue to pakistan then even panjab the biggest pakistani province.
The fault lies in distribution of resources. If ppl from Karachi doesnt take a stand on this Karachi will become non livable . if already not.

To be honest the entire sindh budget is only $6 billion dollars compared to nearly $5 billion of mumbai municipality alone.

Maharastra budget is about $61 billion compared to Pakistan budget of $40 billion.

All that financial expertise on I.I chundrigar road with all those bankers/financiers funding motorways, coal mines and power plants and what not but those Karachi seths can't develop/lobby for basic municipal bond primary and secondary market. If they did then Karachi could have the necessary funding to make itself better.

How many businessmen out there are actually innovating instead of trading betel nuts and basic commodities. This trading mindset is one of the reasons that PSX's market cap is at such dismal levels.

The problem lies with the people of Karachi. They are as rent seeking as the rest of the country. They believe in status quo. If they did not then the whole 20 M population would be out on the street ripping down through government machinery.

People mock the americans rampaging through the streets. However, this is what is the positive thing about them. Right or wrong they believe in their constitution given rights and are willing to fight for it.

We on the other hand wait for a savior.

The people of karachi need to accept that they are all equal citizens in the city (regardless of being sindhi, balochi, muhajir, pushtun e.t.c). People of karachi need to move from this ethnic mind set and think for themselves as a separate entity regardless of ethnicity. Further, they need to be out on the street demanding that Karachi be made a separate province.

Cities like Karachi and Mumbai face technical issues due to a combination of factors like low height above sea level and excess rains.
Example-average height above sea level -
Karachi- 10 m
Mumbai- 14 m

In contrast-
Delhi- 225 m
Lahore- 217 m

And these are mean levels, so many parts of the cities will be having much lower elevations.
For effective drainage, this becomes a issue as drainage to the sea is not possible during heavy rains.
Countries like Japan have Tokyo city with similar issues but they have invested heavily in reservoirs.

For Mumbai with its similar issues, the practical economic solutions are quick drainage during low tide by keeping drains clean and pumping water from low lying area at a fast pace.
Long term solutions are expansion of the city away from the shoreline.

Baku, Azerbaijan is -30m under the sea. It has significantly high tech sewage system.
