What's new

Karachi contributes Rs 16 billion to GDP a day

. .
Karachi is only active port as Gwadar still lacks road connectivity for being a usable port.
Karachi consist of two ports at two different locations If you didn't picked up get straight's point. Gwadar don't lacks road connectivity , , its just need time to emerge as every city needs it in its initial days.

. .
It doesnt make sense
Lahore+Faisalabad+Sialkot+Gujrat+Gujranwala+Sheikhupoora = 30% of GDP?
+ 30 million tons of wheat + 5 million tons of rice + cotton = still less than 30 % GDP
90% of exports originate from Punjab yet still < 30% of GDP

maybe Punjab should hire MQM for its publicity

.
Karachi contributes Rs 16 billion to GDP a day and yet i guess Punjab gets most of what Karachi contributes !!

90% of exports?? where did you get that from??

and you are very ignorant of the basic fact that sindh produces 75% of all the gas, sindh also has a big agriculture, all the major industrial infra is located in karachi and head quartered here, all the major banks are in karachi, sindh not punjab, and all exports are dealt with the sea port and punjab has no port

and lastly we are talking about GDP, pakistan doesnt export much, its the domestic production which counts major

So Basically what you saying is that the work of 80 milion farmers does not contribute to GDP and since they have setup export companies in Karachi thats what counts. good logic, I think all punjabis should goto sleep since head offices are working in Karachi...point taken

lets see how 90%, Textiles, surgical/sports goods, cotton/wheat and rice
what is the main export item of Karachi (we are not talking about sind here, are we)

oh by the way Gas is not exported, and Sind can hardly feed their own, yes i was very ignorant my appologies sir yes sir

people here so damn obsessed with india.......karachi equals a tier III city in india....

Just saying that Karachi, our worst polluted city is cleaner than all your cities... Karachi is more of a tier 1 and Pakistans cities are the cleanest in all of South Asia, dont even compare Karachis roads with your junkyard cities roads...

.
I read on other thread gdp of karachi is 75+billion in 2010 .. Assuming that it is 80 billion now and total pakistans gdp around 200 billion its share comes around 40% of country gdp .. Thats too much wealth accumulated in a single city ..as far as tax collection is considered in my opinion karachi should contribute more than 50% ..as it is the case in all indian cities where they collect more tax then their %ge share in gdp ..
As far as the logic that backbone is punjab, gdp share says it all ..its not ..my guess is that punjab contributes around 25% of gdp ..thats a good share

.
Your hometown was a remote area of India just 2 decades back when there was no Konkan Railways.

I know ..
That's why my town comes in Tier 3 category .. Duhh
And 350km from Pune , 370km from Mumbai can't be called as remote
Ratnagiri had port , national highway and airport which is a naval base now

What I wanted to say was Karachi isnt equivalent to Tier 3 cities of India
It still has much better facilities than Tier 2 cities like Kolhapur

.
Since there is lot of confusion about Karachi contribution to your GDP, I thought of clearing some assumptions here.
