GONDA: Conspirators from “across the border” were responsible for a train derailment near Kanpur that killed 150 people and injured more than 200 last November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.

His remarks follow the arrest of four men in Nepal and Bihar this January, who had allegedly told police that the Pakistani spy agency, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), was behind the Kanpur accident — the worst train tragedy in the country in six years.

“It was a conspiracy and the conspirators carried it out sitting across the border,” he said at a poll rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, which votes on February 27 in the fifth round of the seven-phase assembly elections in the state.

NEW DELHI: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi blamed a deadly train crash that killed 148 people last November on Pakistan as he campaigned for a key state election on Friday.

Narendra Modi claimed police had found evidence of sabotage in the disaster last November, when a crowded passenger train derailed in northern Uttar Pradesh (UP) state, linking it to Pakistan. Police have not corroborated that claim, made at a rally ahead of the latest stage of voting for a new government in UP — India’s most populous state and a hotly contested political prize.

“A rail accident happened in Kanpur and some people were arrested after that,” Modi said at an election rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district. “The police found that it was a conspiracy hatched across the border,” he added, in an apparent reference to rival Pakistan. “If people who will help the conspirators are elected from here, will Gonda be safe, will the nation be safe?”

Indian politicians have a long history of using rivalry with Pakistan to stoke nationalist sentiments ahead of elections. The prime minister’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing a tough challenge in UP from the ruling Samajwadi Party in an election many see as a test of his popularity halfway through his first term.

The state, with a voting population equal to that of Brazil is key to Modi’s own political future as well as his party’s as India inches towards the next general election in 2019.

Three suspects arrested over a failed bid to blow up a rail track in Bihar state in December confessed to working for an agent who had also ordered them to target the train in Kanpur. Police later said they found no evidence to back the suspects’ claims.

Modi has based his entire political base on a Pakistan bashing strategy. In the Modi Gov he is making Pakistan look like a villain and Indians are getting filled up with hate and walking behind this baboon Modi. The Gov Modi might gain few seats in this blame game but he is neglecting the big picture that these type of proxies are always replied and when state factors act, the results are too horrific than what Modi Gov is pointing at. There are more than 2 dozen rebellions going on inside India and anyone of those can do this or it can be a simple accident. But Modi is trying to use the deaths for his personal political gain.

Why should he resign ...you are a senior member you should talk sense there are many CMs & minister in India who have resigned on terrorism or not terrorism accidents or any other incidents but in pak history nobody did that ...if you hv gv any examples ..
