The Kamov Ka-52 Alligator, Hokum-B NATO-codename, is a twin-seat, attack helicopter evolved from the Ka-50 Black Shark. It has been designed to engage surface and airborne targets such as armored vehicles, boats and helicopters in all-weather conditions. Its high maneuverability derived from the two 3-blade coaxial main rotors enables the Ka-50/52 to outperform aerodynamically any other attack helicopters in the world.

The Alligator can perform reconnaissance, close air support, escort, air-to-air, and air-to-surface missions. It can exchange data with other Ka-52 and other helicopter types as well as third party sources achieving enhanced situational awareness, combat effectiveness, etc. Ejection seats have been provided for crew survivability and reduced radar, infrared and acoustic signatures have been provided for improved aircraft survivability.

The Ka-52 Alligator armament includes a 30mm 2A42 gun, up to 12 Vikhr anti-tank missiles, 4 Igla air-to-air missiles, unguided rockets, gun pods, etc. State-of-the-art sensors have been provided to engage targets day/night and in all-weather conditions. A mast-mounted millimeter wave radar can be integrated on the Ka-52 providing enhanced situational awareness and air-to-surface missions support.

The Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter is intended to provide training for the Ka-50 helicopter as well as improved attack capability through the second crew member.

:rolleyes:Russia to start production of new Ka-52 helicopters in October

The Progress aircraft maker, based in Russia's Far East, will start production of a new model of the Ka-52 Hokum-B attack/reconnaissance helicopter in October 2008, a company official said Monday.

The Ka-52 is a twin-seat derivative of the Ka-50 Hokum-A attack helicopter, and is designed primarily for reconnaissance and target designation purposes. It is similar to the U.S. AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.

"The Kamov design bureau has successfully completed testing of the Ka-52 Hokum-B attack/reconnaissance helicopter and it has been adopted for service with the Russian Air Force," Konstantin Parshin said.

"The production of the helicopter will start in October at the Progress aircraft-manufacturing company," the official said.

Deliveries of the Ka-52 Hokum-B to the Russian Air Force will start in 2009.

According to its commander, Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin, the Russian Air Force will receive more than 100 new combat helicopters, including the Ka-52 and the Mi-28N Night Hunter, over a five-year period up to 2015.

The Kamov design bureau has said it plans to supply Ka-50 and Ka-52 helicopters to foreign customers in the future.

The Russian combat helicopter Kamov KA-52 Alligator is the two-seater version of the KA-50. It is equipped with advanced electronic and radar devices which permit operation at any time of the day and under any weather conditions. This chopper is extremely fast and manoeuvrable. Its vital parts are well protected against enemy fire. The KA-52 can carry any extensive array of weapon systems

.
The Ka-52 is bigger than the Apache Longbow, with a larger payload. I think the Ka-52 will give the Apache a run for its money if its fit with western avionics.

.
RUSSIAN'S Kamov Ka-52 Alligator 'Hokum-B':

The Kamov Ka-52 Alligator 'Hokum-B' is an upgrade to the Ka-50 which widens the nose in order to fit a second crewmember to operate the weapons, eliminating the work overload problems encountered in the original Ka-50. The second crewmember also enables the aircraft to perform additional tasks, and the Ka-52 has been fitted with upgraded communications equipment to serve as an airborne command post for other Ka-50s or helicopter forces. This extra capacity comes at the cost of a slightly higher radar signature, a small loss to manoeuvrability and speed, and reduced the vision field of the pilot to one side thanks to the seating arrangement being an unusual side-by-side configuration. However, it retains the turreted sighting equipment from the original Ka-50, enabling the weapons loadout and performance to stay unchanged, and also gets the Ka-50N's night-attack package as standard, now in a turret on the nose and not requiring weapons space. 12 Ka-52s are being purchased by the Russian Army as command helicopters and the rather less interesting role of a Ka-50 trainer.

The Ka-52 gains my vote for its modern design, extraordinary aerial performance, enhanced day-night all-weather capacity over the base model, and especially powerful weapons which can now be better utilised thanks to a dedicated gunner. The Ka-50 is good, but in my opinion this is beyond question better.

AMERICAN APACHE:

The AH-64D Apache Longbow is probably the world's best-known attack helicopter, and is the aircraft of choice when the U.S. Army goes tank-hunting. Featuring a large radar that allows it to engage targets with its 8km-range Hellfire II ATGMs from behind cover, it is optimised for a extremely-low-level 'pop-up attack' mission, but also carries Hydra unguided rocket pods and a 30mm cannon with 1000 rounds of ammunition which give it functionality against targets such as fortifications, light vehicles and infantry. Advanced sensors and communications equipment allow it to operate in all weathers at any time of day or night, and the latest upgrades even give some the ability to command UAVs. It has been extensively used in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has mostly given a good account of itself, destroying over 500 enemy tanks in the Gulf Wars, though it lacks heavy armour and several have been damaged by ground fire. Boron armour plates protect the pilot and gunner from rounds of up to 23mm in calibre, though the rest of the airframe is not armoured and can only withstand machine-gun projectiles.

There is a dire need that Pakistan should review its foreign relations policy and reform defence strategy. Do not depend much on USA while High security forces knows about double game that(Off record truth) American's engagements to expolite the FATA situation besides RAW-India and Mosad-Israel.

Pakistan Should restructure its Defence requirement and prefer to enhance defence with the coordication of China, Russia and France which would be cheapest then Americans.

We should try to establish new friendship pool consisting of China, Russia, France, Turkey and other european states. Besides that Pakistani Foreign Office should draw a comprehansive policy to strengthen relations with Iran and Gulf states, to encounter the influences of indian factor.
Meanwhile, we should keep remember the vitality and importance of relations for strategical & trade development, with East europe and Ex-USSR's states, Like Ukrine, tajikistan, Uzbikistan, etc.

It is easily said than done. At this point in time,we are facing banruptcy and cant afford to buy our own fuel much less buy additional equipment.
When you calculate the lifetime cost of a piece of equipment it is generally 3 times the cost of the equipment. To give you an example, although India is being offered American ware, it is not taking the bait. ONE of the reason is the setup cost of new equipment plus the training required.
Secondly I would be living in cloud Kuckoo land if I were to say that the Russians would offer Pakistan their latest ware. After all India is their leading Buyer and has been for the last 4-5 decades, and in International trade it would be Suicidal to annoy India in favour of Pakistan. Please remember their buying power is 10 times yours if not more. PAF has been much maligned for falling into the F16 trap again. Ever thought why? PAF knows what the score is but chooses to go this way due to various factors one of which is precisely the one mentioned above.
I will not dwell into the political implications of such a reallignment for Pakistan. To put it simply, you will not be allowed to realiign yourself in such a manner that would dislodge the apple cart. Why do you think Zardari went off to UK and then USA withhis tail between his legs, certainly not for the love of Bush or Brown.
So Brother we may all think whatever we want the decisions will be forced on us till such time that we are financially free.

Dear Araz, sir

it has been long enough that, we were crying of our economy, to put a easy example, when i was ten years old my father told me our country is facing banruptcy , now i already became a father of my son, but still in the state of banruptcy ? our state of banruptcy isnt cleared off, it still going on & god knows how long it will be in that state. whats the point!

any how ,if we cleared our minds and hearts from the love of US+UK based militry equipments, and try to buy less expensive chinese, russian made militry equipments with the addition of some of france, i am very sure we can buy more & more & at the same time, our militry spending will surly be down.

we, doesnt need to shift our , buying from US+UK in some panical fashion, but surly, we need to find less expensive, and easy to get approch in mind.
that is a reason, which we should be thinking off now, also we need more closeness of russia and china, in other words we need to define our militry equipments buying stratagy, towards a cheeper and gettable stratagy?
if bangladesh, can get MIG-29s from russia, why can we? its just an example!
this stuff, is also good, as far our national security is concerned, because it kept safe china, & russia from the captilist evil designs.

on, the issue of president zardari's trips to uk and us, yes he went thier to thanked them personaly for thier role in the ouster of former president musharaf, he is certnly in the love of CIA.
What he was doing in usa, what he got from there for pakistan?
he was joking, & filarting with PALIN, for which all the pakistanis were ashamed off around the world?

well said! this shows the quality of our leaders over the years.

coming to the acquisition of offensive russian weapons systems:

1. it aint gonna happen until there is a major paradigm shift in the strategic relations.
2. selling a/c engines through 3rd countries and transport helicopters is not the same as offensive weapons.

This is a two rotor system. and the aircarft stealth may be compromised by noise levels it generate, as compared to single rotor system of contemporary helicopters like Appache, Tiger, Cobra.
This shows the difference of approach of Russian and western block strategy of countering armour.
Western strategy, hide behind cover, masked by terrain, use sensor suit to detect threat, then unmask yourself by poping up from the cover, lobe few Anti tank missiles, leave the arera.

But Hind and Allegator negate this startegy. Hind was a show of brute firce concept, its simple presence over enemy headscreates an intimidating factor.
Stealth, who cares.
Now allegator, russians may believe in again making several passes over the enemy heads, taking targets of oppertunity, instead of masking/popping exercise.
