Dear friend, this very false pride is getting your country into daily danger. Think about the level of violence that prevails in your cities these days. While it is easy to blame your adversaries i.e. Indians for continued violence, this sort of gun culture will in long run become a catalyst to disaster.
If one person has a gun, the other would buy soon, feeling insecure of the first person and then gradually people would start using them even in small and meaningless arguments and disputes.
There are a lot of nations around the world where crime rate is high. Ecuador, Peru even Brazil and Argentina have high crime rates as compared to here in Europe. But imagine if these countries have each and every citizen with an assault rifles. Many resource-rich countries like Uganda, Mozambique, Somalia etc have collapsed as a result of this gun culture, which when used so extensively becomes the very source of a country's collapse.
The best way to get away from this 'addiction' would be to think in terms of your country's development and spread this awareness to your friends and relatives. Try it instead of demanding licenses from government. If the government wants, they can refuse you licenses come and clamp down on weapons shops using force. But this cannot be done in democracies and since you have one now, it is best way to prevent the gun culture from flourishing.
Think about the negative effects this gun culture has brought to your Pakistan. This 'warrior' image gives a good feelings in Hollywood flicks and even in South Asian movies but in real life, it is disastrous.
