PEHSAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government will provide funding for 150 police commandoes to receive training along the pattern of the al Zarrar company of the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group and the US Marine Forces.
This was announced by K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Tuesday during the passing out parade of the Elite Police Force commandoes in Attock.
“This unit will be the first of its kind in Pakistan and will act as a rapid response force,” said Khattak.
The ceremony was held to mark the passing out of 572 elite force policemen trained by the Kashmir Regiment of the Pakistan Army.
Addressing the gathering, CM Khattak approved the recruitment of three army majors to serve in the Elite Police Training School. Furthermore, in addition to announcing the recruitment of 60 instructors for the school, the CM also approved the upgradation of the post of the school’s principal to basic pay scale 19.
The CM also approved a Rs1 million grant for the elite force.
“The government is committed to reforming the police force in order to cleanse it of corruption,” said Khattak, adding there will be no political interference in the force from his government.
Earlier, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani said policing was a difficult task in the province, however, his force is committed to its duty. The IGP further said a rapid response force with a strength of 1050 officials will be deployed in 12 areas of the province.
