BERLIN: A German court on Friday refused to allow a Muslim student to skip swimming lessons after she said she was uncomfortable being so close to bare-chested boys.

The 12-year-old, originally from Morocco but going to school in the southern German city of Frankfurt, had refused to take part in swimming lessons and had been marked down accordingly.

She filed to be given the right to skip the classes, her lawyer arguing that according to the Koran, she was not only forbidden from showing herself to boys but also from seeing the topless boys.

An administrative court in Kassel, western Germany, rejected her application.

It said in its ruling that she could wear the full-body swimsuit, known as the "burkini" already used by several girls at her school, which would be enough to guarantee her religious freedom.

The family had chosen to live in Germany where mixed swimming classes were the norm, the court pointed out.

One of the aims of the school system was to promote integration and tolerance, the court added, citing a ruling by Germany's constitutional court.

The applicant would have to put up with the sight of her classmates in their swimming costumes, the court said.

OK, stop trolling. There is nothing wrong with what the girl demanded. So wait , wtf , what if I don't like swimming and don't want to do it ,or i'm afraid of water ? What would the court say then? So just because she's muslim , she's not allowed to skip. These people are sick minded. These European schools should chill the hell out. swimming is an activity not always a sport . PE is mandatory unless you have a physical aliment in schools. I certainly respect her religious concerns- she could be home schooled or her parents could have moved to another country perhaps?

I don't really agree with blind assimilation. When they accept you in, they accept your right to make cultural changes as well. Nothing that forcibly goes against what they currently do - but at least not be forced into it, or at least talk up your own cultural influences.

I dont see it being objective at all. What will they make children eat beef and pork because of nutrition values decided by them? But anyway .. this has been always what I have predicted, they are just weeding out the citizen deemed unfit for their country's future policies. They couldn't wait for generations for them to assimilate like the irish or the italians. They need results now. If its not going to be their parents, the children will grow up with western values or go home.

Let saudi or other 55 muslim countries froce foreign students to wear bukha, eat beef or any other stuff which other non-muslims hate.

So called tolerant community who preaches world. And who supports this are just hate perticular religion. Nothing more than this.

I read this burkini part, but the article says she wants no boys in the mix.

Let her prove her physical ed without boys. The girl feels this way, so let her.
