Journalist hurls shoe at P Chidambaram

.
If it be so, why then only the Sikhs were targeted in Punjab and in Delhi and in other parts of India?
I would be glad, if it would have been really a political issue. But unfortunately it is not.

It was a political issue but congress did really good job making this Hindu and Sikh issue. If can find the doordarshan clips of that time, you will see how government carried out that plan.

Thanks Gabbar for not bringing religion into this. Yes the congress's role was shameful.

Is it true that Jagdish tytler is a christian?

Your welcom!!, it was never between Hindus and Sikhs. It was congress government and Sikhs. Congress government turned that into Hindu Vs. Sikhs.

Yes the congress's role was shameful.

Indeed!!!

Is it true that Jagdish tytler is a christian?

You know what, I dont know. I hope some other poster can shed some light on this.

Yes He is Jagdish Tytler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Also PIB Press Release

says:

Shri Jagdish Tytler was born in Gujranwala (now in Pakistan) of a Kapoor family and was brought up by great educationist, the late Shri James Douglas Tytler, who was the founder of many public schools like the Delhi Public School, the Summerfields School, etc and in whom name the J D Tytler Higher Secondary School is running in Delhi today.

So he converted to Christinity.

Anyways I dont think his religious origins make him any more / less accountable for what happened in 1984.

Also yes I agree it is a political issue and not a Hindu Sikh one and it would be really surprising if it is made out to be so now.

The act was pre planned on the journalist's part. He had the shoe already taken off before he threw it. I think his main objective was to restart a debate on the enquiry and bring it again to headlines before elections. Seems he was successful. I dont think his intentions were to make it a religious issue and he wanted the enquiry to be scrutenized.

Home minister Chidambaram and congress party deserves this..
What Jarnail Singh did was right. Such stand should be take to all politicians who are ignoring the peoples wish.

Where can I get those Doordarshan footage? Can you give me web links man? Are they available on youtube?

You raised an interesting question. Why Congress did that? Was it for power politics?

Chidambaram's shoe saga started with mild question

There was little indication of the emotive action to follow when Delhi journalist Jarnail Singh asked Home Minister P Chidambaram a question about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots at a press conference on Tuesday.

What ended with a shoe being hurled started with a seemingly innocuous question by the senior Dainik Jagran journalist seated in the front row. Here is how it went:

Jarnail Singh: It has been 25 years since the anti-Sikh riots but the Congress has not done anything. Is it not shameful?

Chidambaram: Please don't use this as a political platform. Please ask me the question.

Jarnail Singh: Nothing has been done against Jagdish Tytler. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is under the home ministry.

Chidambaram: You are still not asking me the question.

Jarnail Singh: My question is was there any pressure from the home ministry to pressure the CBI to let off Tytler although the agency works independently.

Chidambaram: Neither the home ministry nor any other ministry put any pressure on the CBI. The CBI is only reporting to the court. The court is to decide whether to accept or reject the report. Or they can ask the CBI to further investigate.

Jarnail Singh started to say something...

Chidambaram: Let us be patient, let us wait for the courts to take up the case.

Jarnail Singh again started to say something...

Chidambaram: No arguments please, no arguments.

Jarnail Singh blurted out "I protest!". He then bent down and took off his white-black-striped sneaker and flung it at Chidambaram, who momentarily had a stunned look before he regained his composure and swerved to avoid the missile.

As Congress workers escorted him away, Chidambaram said: Please take him away... gently, gently.

When an uproar broke out at the crowded press conference, at the party headquarters, Chidambaram tried to silence them saying: Please ask questions. Let not an emotional action of one person hijack the entire press conference.

Later, a reporter asked Chidambaram about the fate of Jarnail Singh and whether he would forgive him.

Chidambaram: Yes, I forgive him.

Let us be clear, we do not need to be politically correct. Why Indian Hindus are avoiding it? :smokin:

Oye communist ....

Dont spread venom on name of religion.....

If chidambaram , a hindu is our home minister ....our Prime minister is a SIKH ....

There is no religion involved in here otherwise Man Mohan Singh have more powers than Chidambaram....

so if u cant keep brotherhood in your country don't spread venom elsewhere too....

hope u got it...

Sikh journalist hurls shoe at Indian home minister

NEW DELHI: An angry Sikh journalist attending a Congress press conference on Tuesday hurled a shoe at Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram, in an echo of the attack on former US president George Bush in Iraq last year. Chidambaram ducked as the trainer flew past him, but remained calm and pardoned the journalist for his emotional response. Jarnail Singh, the journalist, was angered by the minister’s response to former Congress minister Jagdish Tytler being absolved of all involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots by the Central Bureau of Investigation. “My manner of protest might have been wrong, but I did not intend to hurt anyone,” AFP quoted Singh as saying when he was detained by police before being released without charge. The Shiromani Akali Dal announced Rs 200,000 for Singh as a reward for having the courage to display the Sikhs’ pain and suffering. iftikhar gilani

Why the big fuss. Look at the lighter side. Indian home minister is only one of three celebrities who have the honor of being thrown a shoe at them.

He should celebrate it now that he is in the list of three

Also, the journalist is the third person in the world who did it and most lucky among those three. Unlike others two….. he was released same day and will get a big sack of money..
