Jordan urged Israel on Sunday to stop what it described as "barbaric" attacks on worshippers in Jerusalem's al Aqsa mosque and said it would step up international pressure.

Jordan, which has custodianship of Muslim and Christian sites in Jerusalem, said Israel should respect worshippers and international law safeguarding Arab rights.

East Jerusalem tensions have spilled over into clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians around al Aqsa, Islam's third-holiest mosque, at the height of the Ramadan fasting month.

"What the Israeli police and special forces are doing, from violations against the mosque to attacks on worshippers, is barbaric (behavior) that is rejected and condemned," the government said in a statement.

Frictions have mounted in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, with nightly clashes in East Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah - a neighborhood where numerous Palestinian families face eviction.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the kingdom, which lost East Jerusalem and the West Bank in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, would do its utmost to protect the rights of Palestinians against ownership claims by Jewish settlers.

"Israel as the occupying force carries responsibility for protecting rights of Palestinians in their homes," Safadi said in comments on state media.

Jordan had earlier provided the Palestinians with land deeds in Sheikh Jarrah it says proves Israeli settler claims to the property were groundless.

"The eviction of Palestinians of Sheikh Jarrah from their homes is a war crime," Safadi said.

What will (can) Jordan actually do about it? What will statements of condemnation actually get done for the Palestinians? They might not evict these families because their profile has been raised to an international incident, but what will become of the next family this is done to?

King Abdullah II of Jordan is known to be from Hashemite tribe, direct descendants of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)
Maybe - the question is does his Hashemite ancestry tug on his morals and emotions, or his Suffolk, UK heritage from his mom Antoinette Gardiner that matters more to him. Regardless he is a nobody with no real military capabilities so it is waste of time expecting anything from Jordon.

It is the duty of the rest of the Muslim world to provide Jordan whatever support it requires - if Jordan wants to "do something about it". We are the solution. Saudi, UAE, Qatar, Iran, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh etc. Together we have the power to do anything and everything - if we are willing to work together.

Those rulers who are not willing and sincere will be answerable to Allah. Muslims should stop demanding justice from the West - demand it from our rulers.

Remember who supplies your water Jordan.

Don't be stupid or you'll go thirsty.

The 'palestinians' started riots and Israeli police responded like any other. There have been no deaths despite your pathetic kingdom always fanning the flames.

Jordan does have military capabilities and manpower. Israel is not that much of a chellenge even a much weaker Assad whos way less armed then Jordan and has been thru 10+ years war could even overrun the jewish state. The reason they don't we all know that (NATO) but if pushed to much they could be forced to open that front..

What does Israel have that is significiant except F-35 which could be brought down more or less other then that they will have to get their hands dirty against hardy people which I don't think they have the stomach for.. It will look something similar like Azer-Armenia.. Over-armed Israel would find itself stiffled because military doctrines change and this is not the 50s or 80s etc etc this is the future 20s and they are qualititively matched 90% of the times and on some areas they are behind and have disadvantage..

The Iron dome has been known to be a scam it can't defend against BMs or rockets. Been proven time and time again.. Israel is extremely vulnerable nor do they have the manpower to sustain war of attration when collision of armies occurs and bodies start to pile up. They will have difficulty replacing forces

Go thirsty? Are you providing provision to Palestinians?

Stop acting like god

Unlike the Arabs nearby, Israel put in a lot of effort and innovation into creating surplus water for itself.

It gives to Jordan and 'palestinians' above and beyond what is in signed agreements.

And what does Israel get in return from these enemy entities?

Sir, they took a stand despite being a weak country. The fault lies with so called OIC who has not done a thing for Palestinians. A unified voice in UN can do wonders.

Just useless lip service. I am sure behind the curtains they assure them that these statements are just for public consumption.

So what? Does that give him any legitimacy or any priority?? Abu lahab was also hashemite, so he is a descendant of abu lahab as well.
Also learn the meaning of "direct descendant", how is he a direct descendant when the Prophet SAW didnt have a son that lived beyond infancy???

This is how us gullible Muslims cow-tow to a half Brit, by giving him this questionable mantle, and allowing a half brit to rule over a bunch of brownies and thinking it is somehow blessed. Rulers should be measured by what they do for their people and country. Nothing more, nothing less. BTW the half-brit who was never meant to rule. It was King Hussein brother's line that was meant to rule after his death. The one who married a Pakistani. Right at the end back-end machinations (like spurred on by the west) and the bumbling King makes this son the crown prince. Rest is history.
