Jordan buys outdated Polish T-72 main battle tanks

I am surprised they can afford and have option of many modern tanks like leopard, T-90, Leclerc, Abrams even Armata.....only one answer coming to my mind either corruption or some hidden pact for some restricted weapon.

They have Centurion, Challenger 1 and M60. With modern upgrades for the latter two (incl 120mm smoothbore guns). A T-72M1 turned into PT-16 is in effect a western MBT.

Looks like a digital beast...In a first picture what type of secondary weapon it carries?

The older ones are being purchased for basic familiarization prior to upgraded ones. They are to replace their Centurions.

Centurion/Tariq in storage. After retirement from service with the arrival of ex-British Challenger tanks in the late 1990s several Tariq's were converted into heavy APC's (MAP II Heavy Armored APC, Temsah HAPC, DAWSAR by KADDB.)

It looks very good! no wonder why Jordan wants it..

Designated the PT-16, the upgrade's goal is to overcome the main weaknesses of the T-72 MBT family, namely a low power-to-weight ratio; the asymmetric location of the main gun recoil mechanism, which affects accuracy; and the fact that the magazine for the tank's two-part ammunition (projectile and propellant charge) is located in its crew compartment, resulting in a high probability of the vehicle exploding if its armour is penetrated.

The PT-16 upgrade package includes changing the main armament from its 125 mm weapon to a 120 mm NATO-standard gun with a new gun/turret drive stabiliser system; the application of additional armour, reactive armour (ERAWA 1/2-type), and an anti-rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) net system; replacement of the tank's 850 hp engine with a more powerful powerpack; an upgrade to the suspension system to increase mobility; the introduction of a battlefield management system and the OBRA III laser-warning system; and the installation of an auxiliary power unit (APU) with air-conditioning system.

The top speed of the PT-16 in rough terrain increases from 62-70 km/h with a 1,000-1,200 hp engine, while reverse speed increases from 15-33 km/h.

The main armament for the PT-16 would be either a 120 mm/50 calibre smoothbore Slovakian TG MSB 120 gun or a Ukrainian KBM2 gun chambered for 120x570 mm NATO one-piece standard ammunition. The PT-16 is also armed with a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun and a ZSMU A4 remote-control weapon station manufactured by Zaklady Mechaniczne Tarnow (ZMT).

The turret of the PT-16 is equipped with a back-mounted auto-loader, also designed by ZMT, which enables a rate of fire of 12 shots per minute and holds 22 rounds of ready-to-use ammunition.

as transit country for weapon supply to hide it.. maybe a gift for some rebels.. just send time by time some tanks to rebel groubs..

or they think they will need them.. if any thread exists than we can say rebels groubs or IS or Kurds could threaten jordan.. and against rebels t72 are more than enough
