Pakistan, Germany agree to boost defence cooperation

Pakistan and Germany have agreed to further increase defence cooperation.

This understanding was reached during a meeting between Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and his German counterpart Ursula von der Leyen in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Views were exchanged on Afghanistan and overall situation in the region, Daish, situation in Middle East, and the issue of Syrian refugees.

Later, addressing a joint press conference, Khawaja Asif termed his talks with his German counterpart as positive. He said the issue of Afghan refugees was also discussed with the German Minister.

Speaking on the occasion, Ursula von der Leyen said Germany is standing with Pakistan in war against terrorism. She said Pakistan is playing an important role for the stability in the region.

The German Minister said inauguration of the Heart of Asia Conference by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is significant.

My guess? An APC, which has been rumored for quite a while now. Who really knows? Pakistan tends to keep quiet about these things until they have something substantial to show for their efforts. Right now, only an agreement has been signed, but nothing to show for it.

Personally, I think there is more to this than meets the eye. The Germans have, for quite sometime, been positioning themselves to gain a big chunk of Pakistan's foreign defense procurement, and with the PA looking to replace their current standard battle and assault rifles, the Germans may be trying to win that (absolutely huge) contract. Who knows, if that succeeds, we may even see the revival of the U-214 contract.

One thing is for certain, the Germans want to convince Pakistan that they're a reliable weapons supplier (not that they need to do a lot of convincing).

Pakistan often signs agreement after already starting work

Regardless, they don't announce anything major until they have something to show. That's why they've kept quiet about this

The agreement is between HIT and German Companies, so probably its about APC / IFV / MBT related equipment. I think its about time for POF to sign some agreements with HK for local manufacture of new small arms if PA has any plans to replace G3 and MP5 in the next 10 years.

Pakistan cannot afford German equipment. They are ridiculously overpriced.

You can get topnotch armoured vehicles, rifles and more from Turkey at considerably lower costs.

For example, MKEK MPT 76 will cost us around 2k vs HK 417's market price of 10k.

Similarly, you can get Tulpar IFV for $3 million vs $8-9 million for German Puma.

Yeh na ho APC krte krte Engine aaya ho Al-Khalid ka 1500 Hp Ka :rofl:
Subsystems are a more likely possibility.

PA has been looking for a SPM Carrier since long.

1500 HP engine for AKII - Germans & Korean engines.

The U boat is dead.. Unless the Germans allow Pakistan to modify them to launch SLCMs!

New infantry rifle to replace G-3 is also in the works.. HK could be selected for that.
