A major joint military exercise started this Tuesday in Turkey, in which troops from various NATO nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are taking part.

The Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) is sending a number of aircrafts, along with a large contingent of airmen to participate in the exercise, which will also witness the drills performed by troops from Jordan, Pakistan, Italy and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the official Turkish defence sources, the exercise, which is codenamed as Anatolian Eagle 2, is a continuation of the joint military exercise Anatolian Eagle hosted by Turkey in 2011. The exercises are currently underway at the Turkish Air Forces’ (THK) 3rd Main Jet Base Group Command, in Konya.

RSAF’s Lieutenant General Nafi Al-Swait, informed the media that a large number of its fighter jets and military helicopters, including the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagles, Panavia Tornados, Boeing E-3 Sentry, and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks will take part in the exercises, in addition to hundreds of Saudi airmen. He said that apart from the routine aerial training exercises, the drills will also consist of simulations of tactical firing and electronic warfare.

The Turkish officials meanwhile informed the media that the exercises, which began on June 12, will go on for 12 days, ending on June 23rd. The Israeli Armed Forces, which was one of the regular participants in the Anatolian Eagle exercise earlier, will not be sending its contingent, as the diplomatic relations between the nation and Turkey is yet to be normalized after the Gaza flotilla raids of 2010. Israel last participated in the exercises in 2009.

The Anatolian Eagle exercise, which is conducted two times every year, is usually attended by Air Force units from various NATO nations in addition to Turkey. Pakistan first participated in the exercises in 2004, while the UAE made its debut in 2002. The RSAF participated for the first time in 2011, along with units from Jordan, UAE, Pakistan, Spain, USA, and Turkey.

A lion!
HAHAHA, don't be ridiculous. Russia will not alter her country and interests for Bashar's eyes, she will eventually bow like she did in Bosenia, Lybia, and with Iran. BTW, Bashar's clan real name is "Aljahsh" "The colt", but after his father seized the power in Syria he changed his family name into "Alassad" "The lion".

The same countries involved in the recent drill in Jordan are going to take part of the Turkish one. Something big is going to happen.
