Demise of Two Nation theory on Jinnah’s own Home turf – Jinnah’s bloodline thrives in India
Jinnah's only living descendants - two grandsons - Ness wadia ( co-owner of ,Britannia industries , IPL team kings XI Punjab and ex-boyfriend of Preity Zinta ) and Jehangir wadia ( head of Go-Air airlines ) are Indian and are thriving in India - this alone speaks volumes about failure of Two Nation Theory .
Jinnah’s Indian & Mumbai-connection are endless.
He was born in Bombay presidency – actually in Karachi region but at the time of his birth, jurisdiction of Bombay Presidency extended upto Karachi . ( Afterall Karachi is just 800 km away from Mumbai – almost equal to distance between Mumbai& Goa ) .
He learned initially at Gokuldas Tej Pal Primary school ( is this the same school that we see near CST ,Bombay ) and later at Cathedral & John Connon School ( located at Fort ,colaba. This school also boasts of alumni like Homi Jehangir bhabha, JRD Tata, zulphikar Bhutto, Ratan tata,Cyrus mistry ,Rahul bajaj ,Salman rushdie,Kiran desai,Rahul Bose, Amisha Patel and so on ) in Mumbai . He also later graduated from Bombay university before moving to London for further studies.
Jinnah became youngest indian to becalled to British Bar. He shortly returned to Mumbai and was the only Muslim barrister in India at that time. The distinction he cleverly used to put himself at centre-stage of muslim politics. He served as Bombay presidency magistrate for 6 months in year 1900. ( his salary in 1900 was 1500 per month. Best salary that one can vy for .He was offered the permanent position as Bombay presidency Magistrate but he declined he said he will make 1500 per day instead of per month. which he actually did later on ! )
In 1916 Jinnah was instrumental in securing acquittal of Lokmanya tilak from charge of sedition . ( Lokmanya Tilak was incarcerated at Dongri prison ( at Byculla ) during trial)
His second wife was – Rattanbai Petit was daughter of Sir Dinshaw Petit ( son of first baronet Dinshaw maneckji Petit). JJ hospital- One of the biggest and the oldest hospital in India - it’s ophthalmic hospital stood up with donation from Dinshwa petit- it was earlier called as Dinshaw Petit hospital. )
And as you would understand being parsi there was lot of opposition to this inter-communal marriage and as expectedly Rattanbai had to convert to Islam before duo could marry. They also had registered marriage at south court ( near malabar hill) in Mumbai. They formed an eye turning couple. rattan bai was the most beutiful women in Mumbai

It was almost like fairy tale that ended up as a tragedy.
Growing radicalisation of Jinnah as he gradually got involved with politics of Muslim league- rendered rattanbai’s life stiffling. The distance grew and Ruttie as she was fondly called by her father stayed at taj hotel in later years of her life .She passed away in 1929 and was buried at cemetery in mazgaon. This cemetery was the last place Jinnah visited in august 1947 before he left India forever.
Jinnah had one daughter born of Rattan bai – named Dina ( named after her famous grandfather & great grand father – although Rattan bai was totally estranged from her family after marriage with Jinnah , she named her daughter after her father and grandfather).
Dina was born on 15’th august 1919 at London.
( Jinnah's daughter was born on 15'th of August ...and she stayed in India after partition ....
and Pakistan was born on 14'th of August ....That is hell of a coincidence )
Dina grew up under stern eye of Jinnah’s sister –fatima ( who later ran for Pakistan’s presidential election after Jinnah's death but was defeated by liaquat ali khan ) . Fatima took every care that jinnah’s daughter will grow under Islamic influence.
The circle would complete itself–when Jinnah’s only daughter - founder of Islamic Republic of Pakistan shunned Islam to convert to Christianity to marry Parsi-turned-Christian Neville Wadia.
Jinnah who himself had a love marriage with parsi lady against wishes of duo’s family - now , tried his best to dissuade Dina from this marriage . Mahommedali Currim Chagla, who was Jinnah's assistant at the time, recalls: "Jinnah, in his usual imperious manner, told her that there were millions of Muslim boys in India, and she could have anyone she chose. Reminding her father that his wife (Dina's mother Rattanbai), had also been a non-Muslim, a Parsi also coincidently, the young lady replied: 'Father, there were millions of Muslim girls in India. Why did you not marry one of them?' Jinnah sternly replied “ I married her when she became Muslim”
Dina refused to leave India with Jinnah after partition. The relationship between two deteriorated although they did correspond with each other – Jinnah always addressed her as Mrs wadia in his letters . She stayed back with Neville wadia in India till early 80s when they moved to New york and became US citizens.
Mohammed ali Jinnah- “Qaid-e azam” as well “ Bai-e azam” ( father of nation ) of Pakistan could not be a ‘great’ father to his only child. He created a separate nation for muslims but his own daughter stayed back in India. Jinnah believed muslims constitute separate creed and they can not receive fair treatment in Independent “ Hindu” majority India which was the basis of Two Nation theory - the theory which failed miserably in Jinnah’s own home turf literally .
Jinnah had a big palatial house in Mumbai at Malabar hill ( currently located at 2 Bhau Hire marg ) which he had to leave hurriedly as partition ensued(Jinnah house is currently owned by Government in India ) the multi million dollar property is still waded in legal controversy . Jinnah house hosted British Embassy from 1948 -1980.
Dina wadia visited pakistan only twice – once for her father’s funeral in 1948 and then in 2004 to Lahore to see india –Pakistan match. She visited a country which her father founded, as a foreigner – in 1948 as an Indian and in 2004 as an American .
Neville wadia converted back ( from christianity - "Paternally" endowed) to become Parsi again in later years of his life.Dina wadia also effectively became parsi. Son Nusli wadia ( owner of Bombay dyeing) and grand sons: Ness wadia ( co-owner of ,Britannia industries , IPL team kings XI Punjab and ex-boyfriend of Preity Zinta ) and Jehangir wadia ( head of Go-Air airlines ) are Indian and thrive in Mumbai.
Great grand-sons of Jinnah are Indians – isn’t that an irony of fate ? Or is it a poetic justice ?
People talk about Jinnah – that he was the person who achieved everything that he set out to do for himself. Dina wadia truly became daughter of her father and mother – she defied everything in pursuit of love.
