What about the F22? are they also coming in with the F-35? or they will come before?

They are also adding a few THAAD and Patriot batteries into the mix I heard.

Nope. They will pay 10 million for the aircraft maintenance for 10 years as a package deal.
And 2 free aircraft for every SU-30MKI and Rafael that is downed by these aircraft.
Something Pakistan can't simply refuse...

The General Dynamics F-16XL is a derivative of the F-16 Fighting Falcon, with a cranked-arrow delta wing.
The F-16XL started out as the F-16 SCAMP (Supersonic Cruise And Maneuver Prototype)
The original goal of the program was to be a quick project to demonstrate the applicability of supersonic transport technologies to military aircraft.[1] The big wing generated a lot of lift, and typical aerodynamic limitations of delta wings were overcome by the F-16's relaxed static stability. The F-16's electronic flight control system was tweaked to allow control at high angles of attack. The wing was also a big fuel tank which greatly increased range. The study went on for two years. The goal of the cranked arrow was to have a high sweep inboard panel for low drag at supersonic speeds, and a low sweep outboard panel to provide better handling and maneuverability at subsonic speeds.
The main wing incorporated forebody strakes to enhance vortex generation for high angle of attack maneuverability, negative stability for improved subsonic lift and reduced supersonic drag. It was built around a 40-inch fuselage stretch. Both the large wing and fuselage stretch yielded a dramatic increase in range at all speeds
The wing and rear horizontal control surfaces were replaced with a cranked-arrow delta wing 120% larger than the original wing. Extensive use of carbon fiber composites allowed the savings of 600 lb (270 kg) of weight but the F-16XL was still 2,800 lb (1,300 kg) heavier than the original F-16A.

Less noticeable is that the fuselage was lengthened by 56 in (1.4 m) by the addition of two sections at the joints of the main fuselage sub-assemblies. With the new wing design, the tail section had to be canted up 3°, and the ventral fins removed, to prevent them from striking the pavement during takeoff and landing. However, as the F-16XL exhibits greater stability than the native F-16, these changes were not detrimental to the handling of the aircraft.

These changes resulted in a 25% improvement in maximum lift-to-drag ratio in supersonic flight and 11% in subsonic flight, and a plane that reportedly handled much more smoothly at high speeds and low altitudes. The enlargements increased fuel capacity by 82%. The F-16XL could carry twice the ordnance of the F-16 and deliver it 40% farther. The enlarged wing allowed a total of 27 hardpoints:

* 16 wing stations of capacity 750 lb
(340kg) each
* 4 semi-recessed AIM-120 AMRAAM stations under fuselage
* 2 wingtip stations
* 1 centerline station
* 2 wing "heavy/wet" stations
* 2 chin LANTIRN stations
However, the "heavy/wet" stations interfered with up to four wing stations.

Even if it were in production. When new F-16 Block-60/80 are too expensive for Pakistan a F-16XL is out of the question. We might go for upgraded/overhauled used models. There are pros and cons for delta's discussed till death on the forum. Summary of which is Delta's are good for strike role (steady and fast) but not ideal for air superiority. Delta + canards are a work around but debatable.

If delta's are what interest you, you should read up on the cancelled Mirage-4000. Both F-16XL and Mirage 4000 were rivals to the F-15 and cancelled when potential clients opted for F-15s. Mirage-4000 in performance specs was superior to the Rafael but would have also been more expensive..

Pakistan's next premium strike platform would be the Azm since stealth is going to be a necessity for increased survivability.

There is no replacement of aircraft.

There is fulfillment of roles.

The PAF needs a strike element capable of large payloads. A platform that is survivable, easily serviceable and integrates with existing doctrine.
It needs a fighter capable of evading the Indian Air Defence environment deep enough to strike at the targets well inside India with standoff munitions, and then be able to egress out with a high probability of survival to repeat the process.

The XL is a dead program - so is the premise of this thread.

The perfect replacement for the Mirage 5 is the Mirage 2000, and that chapter is closed as well.

The only options open to Pakistan with its current economic and diplomatic situation is to continue upgrading the JF-17 to be a more effective multirole payload whilst simultaneously buying one or two additional squadrons of Block-72s. The rest of the focus is on a 5.5 gen fighter.

These aircraft will then balance and cooperate on these roles until the PAF is able to generate or procure a platform that does the above stated mission.

Oscar, or whatever latest name you are going by my friend, I'm wondering if the Mirage rebuilds are using heat treatment to deal with airframe fatigue?

Rather than focusing on in house R&D and relevant industries we are still seeping towards fancy lollipops.
Grab a squad or 2 if US fix it in FMS elsewise no thanks.

They are very expensive, Mitsubishi F2 is the scale up model of F16 only exist.
