A noobish question

Can a more powerful engine will increase its loading capacity on wings????

.
Pylon on the wingtips can also cause vibration during high speed and maneuvering,it also affects roll rate.
The thunder can carrying missile on wingtips, you just have to make a balanced decision between payload, speed and maneuverability.

Anyway, why is everyone here obsessed with large payload? Different airforce have different priority, the USAF is offensive airforce, thence it usually carry tons of democracy, also because they have sick engines, even a cube can fly with a sick engine. The PLAAF however value speed, combat radius and maneuverability more.

This is not a rule. F-16s and Gripen do carry BVRAAMs on their wingtip rails.

Hi,

The only reason the BVR is carried on wing tip is that you already know that it will be launched first---. You are pretty much in a straight flight----has a lock and wing tip bvr will be launched first--basically not hindering in the maneuverability of the aircraft.

In this mode the aircraft is setup for total BVR combat----it will launch its load and turn away from combat.

In this mode----the F 16 can carry 6 BVR missiles and that is a good load.

Just a nice pic

Dear MK,
In light of below linked report, what are your remarks regarding future air combat scenarios vs. F-35?

F-35 is stealth, it doesn't need to dodge the enemy if it isn't seen by one, plus F-35 will engage from long distances with high tech weaponry which would guarantee utmost precision and efficiency, rendering dog fighting useless, in short an F-16 would be shot down before the pilot can even say "I have been locked on".

Hi,

Here is the thing-----the opponent pilot will be able to see the F 35 / F 22 visually---but his electronics will be blind---he will not be getting a lock on anything but that anything is right in front of his eyes.

I always say----if someone is down playing the leading U S weapons system----then---please put your hands on your behind and run far away from the scene as fast as you can.

What on the earth would make you think that the -35 and the -22 would get into dog fights? These scenarios have less than 5% of the chance. These two platforms are there to get in, take out majority of the enemy air force and air defense assets, leave the area for the -15's, -16's and the -18's for further "cleanup" and provide air superiority oversight and maintain combat air patrols over the enemy territory. The -16 is probably one of the most maneuverable jet out there, it beats everything.
But with -35 and -22, you can see the plane and get behind it....but your electronics will give you a middle finger instead of locking onto anything.

BTW, this is a JFT thread.....
