Well it was an open secret Block-1 radar was not compatible with SD-10 A. Once Block-2 upgrades began to occur on Block-1, we start seeing these images.

for the purpose of training .... obviously no Airforce would like to expend live ammunition & weapons in general training exercises ... BVR also have flying hours limitations after that either they required replacement or full service so training rounds save them not just financially but emulates almost the same flight envelop of BVR.
Early versions of sd-10 had a mediocre captive life of just 200 hours which has since increased significantly from A version onwards.
