JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 4]

Pt-06 being tested rigorously with different things (SD-10, Cruise missiles, satellite guided bombs etc) at Chengdu along with J-10B & J-20 both of the future CAF front line fighters do give an impression that FC-1 is being seriously looked into and being tested as a CAF future fighter jet also. There is no other explanation for the jet being tested so rigorously.

And here is the FC-1 with the smoke winders :)

It seems CAF is very serious in acquiring the fighter.

im pretty sure they are not smoke winders.
they are some sort of pods to collect data throughout the flight (my guess)

you can see this F-16 is also carrying them, while testing AIM-9X.

Correct. Its not national day or flight display. carry smoke winder for what?

It shall be some kind of data pod.

Pt-06 might be the block II PAF going to receive. External wise, not much different but the added with all A2G capabilities and datalink. Making it true multi-role. Most importantly BVR capable with SD-10.

.
but PT-06 IS DIFFERENT than PT-04.
PAF blk-1 version so far carry none of these weapons that are tested on PT-06.

They all can..
PT-06 is not too different from production JF-17's.. apart from carrying the Chinese Ejection seat and some other systems.
They both have the same Mil-bus.. same processor.. and run pretty similar software.
All weapons being tested on PT-06 are automatically tested for production JF-17s.

How survivable are those block 52 against these Phased array systems.

They are just a part of the different layers which includes both Old and new systems.

relatively well equipped.
Off course I cant play into the worst case scenario which you always portray.

You may actually be very right..
There seems no point in carrying smoke winders..
These may very well be data telemetry pods used to transmit flight data back to the ground station.
A similar ACMI pod has also been developed.

Windjammer -

The missile fired was variant of Pl-5E. Oscar and I had detailed discussion on another thread.
This would have been done, to test the missile... it's maneuverability without canards, it's fall and upwards thrust... I tried to ask many officers, including a retired Air Commodore about it, but no one had any idea and some even believed it to be just camera's quality against sky... I don't believe that, though.

Here is the discussion, you would enjoy.

Had it been a data pod, then one would have been enough, not 2 on both the pylons, the other wing has the same thing.

here see below the link to some of the J-10s equipped with the same thing which is very much identical is size and shape, may be in future a better quality picture reveals how this device looks, but am sure they are these smoke winders, which may have been put for testing or some other reason even though its not some national day or airshow, but who knows.

Datapod?
Smoke winders?

They could be dummy missiles, with just the circuits and connections, to integrate/test the developing systems and remove bugs. Using this dummy could be easier to modify than using a actual AAM itself, as any changes would be faster. They could be improving the AAM (PL-5 and PL-12 are still undergoing tests).

Just a possibility, only if those are not smoke winders.

The pics of the blue J-10 is of the PLAAF aerobatics team, August 1. So those might probably be smoke trails.

Thats an even higher possibility.

Here are two pictures to make the possibly even more stronger.
How a AAM is developed.

You don't really need to use the whole missile or add the canards to dummy, when it is actually test for integration or avionics/circuits.

Yup..
However, Im still divided on whether this is an avionics test or some new data pod..
The former seems more likely though since we just saw the data and telemetry pod KG-300 lookalike

Data pod, shape and size of a missile or smoke winders? Two to them?

I know, because you claims doesn't hold their own when you have to explain how things work right? :) However, I didn't meant to disagree with what you have said, but tried to make clear that there is a general difference between a stealth fighter and a non stealth fighter like JFT, so no need to take it personal actually.
As I said, JF 17 has for sure a low RCS compared to other current PAF fighters, but not compared to modern fighters available on the market, because therefor design, materials and coatings play a major role and it lacks behind in these fields, mainly because of a very different development goal.

Actually i dont take anything personal but it is kind of boring because you have been repeating the same thing for three pages now. I read your analysis with interest but this one is a bit, boring. JFT has NO stealth, stealth is a specific word used for aircraft that truly possess this capability for e.g, f22, 35, 117, J-20. Now, all of these belong to the 5th gen, not less than that. RCS reduction is to reduce the RCS and this, can be achieved by varying means on any 4th, or advanced 4th generation fighter.

RCS Reduction (application depends on aircraft types and versions) has been applied to....

J-10 (A, B, S)

JF-17 (blk 1, 2, 3?)

JAS-39 Gripen (C, D and latest NG version)

Eurofighter Typhoon (all tranches)

Rafale (all tranches)

F-16 (42, 52 onwards)

Mirage 2000 (2000-5 onwards)

LCA, N-LCA (composites help a lot)

F-A/18 (C, D, E, F)

F-15 (E, SG, K, SE)

Hope this will end an issue that should have never been an issue at all. :)
