Hi Mr. Epinephrine, kindly please note that the JF-17 was designed from the onset to be a light-weight fighter, whereas the F-16 is a medium weight fighter. The JF-17 currently has an engine with max thrust of ~18lbs, whereas the F-16s engine is 29K-32K lbs. Hence, the difference in payloads. In addition, the F-16 has a larger wing, and thus has additional hardpoints.

The JF-17 satisfies the PAF requirements for a light weight figher, whereas as the F-16s and J-10B will be the heavy weight fighters.

Hi, the F-16s and J-10B are considered the heavier end for the PAF, as it is all relative. However, overall these two planes are medium weight. I agree the JF-17 needs a much more powerful engine; it is to smokey, and underpowered. We all have heard rumors of the WS-13B, or the RD-33 Sea Wasp, both of which have more thrust. The Block 2 has a lot more composites, so this should also help in the thrust to weight ratio, but only time will tell once the Block 2 comes out. It is a waiting game...

you did a good job of catching his mistake in the ending sentence while ignoring what he said earlier.

JF-17 and F-7s in PAF are the full filling the role of a light aircraft and by their engine and frame size they do fall in the lighter aircraft category

J-10 and F-16s are designated as medium aircrafts. Their payload, their engine and their size falls in between the light and heavy weight fighters . He didn’t mean to call them heavy air crafts it’s a slip and I hope you wont sue him for this mistake.

Su30 and F-15s are heavy weights. what he meant there for J-10 and F-16 was that they will serve as our flagship / front line aircrafts that’s the role that bigger air forces reserve for their heavy weight fighters. its engine is fine for whatever the current operational requirements of the aircraft are concerned don’t worry too much about the black smoke as its only cosmetic and will be only visible at very close range, once it is replaced with the improved WS 13 Chinese engine then this complaint will also be resolved.

until then concentrate on more than half full glass

Yup. In fact as per what iv read touch screen MFDs were offered for the Thunder as well but Pakistan and China both decided against it. They are still an option and can be put in in accordance with the customer's wishes.
 
PAC, CAC look to make JF-17 a multinational programme

The Chengdu Aerospace Corporation (CAC)/ Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) JF-17 Thunder was demonstrated at the Dubai Air Show in November in a bid to market the fighter aircraft as a low-cost alternative to established platforms.


The Chinese and Pakistani manufacturers of the FC-1/JF-17 Thunder are looking to market the aircraft on the international market as a low cost but capable alternative to more expensive established offerings.

Making only its second appearance at a major international air show, the Thunder is being geared towards a number of international markets beyond Southwest Asia and the Middle East.

"Look at the aircraft many air forces are flying in developing countries - MiG-21s, F-5s, F-4s; these are all aircraft where their airframe life is over and they must be replaced," said the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Commander-in-Chief, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman.

"When you look at the capabilities required for a modern fighter aircraft you see that they all come at a high cost. [The] JF-17 comes in at almost one third the cost of any other aircraft with similar capabilities and this is our competitive advantage in the market."

The PAF programme team at PAC in Kamra are now finalising the design for the Block 2 version of the aircraft. PAF and CAC officials listed some of the main features of the next iteration of the aircraft, including a new advanced complement of avionics and an air-to-air-refuelling capability, as well as the development of a two-seat variant. There is also a new version of the aircraft's China Electronics Technology Corporation (CETC) KG300G electronic warfare suite that expands the coverage of its frequency band.

However, there are no plans at present to change out the aircraft's Nanjing Research Institute of Electronics Technology (NRIET) KLJ-7 radar set for an alternative model. PAF programme executives told Jane's : "The KLJ-7 was our choice; the Chengdu team proposed another radar set but we took this one and have now made a number of improvements to it to the point where we are very satisfied with it."

There have been persistent reports that the PAF is also looking at a set of avionics and weapons provided by Denel and other South African industry partners. Denel's A-Darter air-to-air missile is a particularly attractive option as the JF-17 is fitted with the older Chinese-made LOEC PL-5IIE missile.

It is unclear whether the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) will ever procure the aircraft. Some PAC personnel have stated that there is a divergence in the programme and that "the JF-17 variant ... developed by Pakistan will incorporate third-country systems and this is not for the PLAAF. [The Chinese] will instead operate the FC-1 version of the aircraft with Chinese-made systems on board."

ACM Suleman did not make this distinction when asked if the PLAAF will also be a customer, saying: "The JF-17 will find its position in the PLAAF, but we do not know when as we are not advised of the Chinese armed forces' timetable."
 
Touch screen has one weak point, it lower control.If yu mistakenly touch, it receive command and perform accordingly.

A-Darter would be nice addition in JF-17 for mid range A t A attack role.
 
KLJ-7 radar i thought it was total crap!!!! and couldn't even be used for BVR!! why are we insistent on KLJ-7 why not try to do a deal with south africans or ukraine for a technologically superior radar!

Logic therefore says "there is something important we don't know" or that it is our thinking that is "total crap" to borrow your phrase. It is expected that not all details are in the public domain and those available are not accurate.

If the PAF are saying they have an improved KLJ-7, better then the specification we have available, something muradk said about two years ago, then hunt and find the latest KLJ-7 details.

Hi, does this not contradict persistent rumours that the Block 2 radar will an AESA radar?

the KLJ radar is only for the present blockI version cuz we still manufacturing/inducting them . However the the blockII is totally based on AESA cuz all our western counterparts are moving towards AESA cuz it has longer range and many more advantages than the older ones.....:smokin:
