RD-33​
The RD-33 turbofan engine was developed in 1985 to power the Mikoyan MiG-29 fighter. It is an 8000-9000 kgf thrust class turbofan twin-shaft engine with afterburner built by the Klimov company of Russia and has several variants. It features a modular design, individual parts can be replaced separately and has a good tolerance to the environment. The RD-33 is simple to maintain and retains good performance in challenging environments
Then RD-33 series 3 is a variant for MiG-29M and MiG-29SMT

RD-33MK​
The Klimov RD-33MK engine features higher thrust and durability than any of its predecessors. It has been developed to fit into advanced Mig-29 aircraft variants such as Mig-29K, Mig-29SMT and Mig-29M. Each RD-33MK engine provides 19,842 pounds of thrust and has an extended life cycle of 4,000 flight hours which is double than RD-33 engine.
RD-33MK engines were selected to power India's Mig-29K/KUB carrier-based aircraft ordered in 2005.

RD-93 is an advanced variant of the basic RD-33. It has a higher maximum thrust of 84 kts than RD-33's 81 kts and a better bypass ratio. Its gear box is situated below the main body unlike the original RD-33 which has a gear box above it. The engine has a virtually spontaneous response and is in the league of RD-33 MK which off course is a new model with added features. Thrust Vectoring Nozzle is no big deal as the JF-17 is already too agile even without it.

Pakistan’s first JF-17 fighter to roll out on Monday


ISLAMABAD: The first JF-17 Thunder built at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) at Kamra will roll out on November 23, ushering in a new era in Pakistan-China ties and the local aviation industry, official sources said on Tuesday.

They said China and the Pakistan Air Force attached great importance to the project, which was materialising after almost a decade.

The PAC has utilised all its capabilities in producing the aircraft, besides materialising orders received from abroad.

The JF-17 Thunder – a lightweight, multi-role fighter aircraft with glass cockpit, hands-on throttle-and-stick controls and efficient man-machine interface – would ensure minimum workload for the pilots.

It has a maximum speed of Mach 1.6 and a high thrust-to-weight ratio enables it to perform well in air defence roles. An ability to carry short and long-range air-to-air missiles provides the aircraft first-strike capability.

The aircraft would replace the ageing fleets of A-5s, F-7Ps and the mirages in the PAF inventory. app

This will kick start a new era in Pak-China relationship, and aviation industry, an official source told APP here Tuesday. Both China as well as PAF attach a lot of importance to this project which is materializing after hectic and laborious efforts spread over almost a decade, he said.

The PAC has generated all the capability to produce the aircraft locally for its onward delivery to PAF besides materializing purchase orders from abroad.

The JF-17 Thunder a new generation, light-weight, all weather, day/night multi-role fighter aircraft with glass cockpit, hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) controls and efficient man-machine interface will ensure a minimal pilot workload.

The maximum speed of Mach 1.6 and a high thrust-to-weight ratio will enable it to perform well in an air defence role. An ability to carry short- as well as long-range air-to-air missiles lends the aircraft a first shot capability.

In the surface attack role, a variety of weapons - conventional as well as precision-guided, a sophisticated avionics suite along with accurate weapon delivery system, ensure higher mission success rate.

An effective ECM suite will greatly enhance survivability of the platform. Its anticipated air-to-air refuelling capability will provide the JF-17 with more loiter time to safeguard the frontiers and the ability to deliver the required punch at distance.

It will replace the ageing fleets of A-5s, F-7Ps and the Mirages in the PAF inventory thus fulfiling a multi-role task.

Lets compare JF-17 with Q-5, how much its improved the capability of PAF.

PAF Nanchang Q-5/ A-5C (NATO reporting name Fanton)

PAF using export version of Q-5 with more western gears upon customers' requests, such as flight instrumentation made by Rockwell Collins, and western ejection seat made by Martin-Baker. Added the capability to fire western missiles such as the R550 Magic or AIM-9 Sidewinder.
The A-5C was modified by China to meet the PAF requirements in the special role of close air support as well as its primary role of ground-attack and deep penetration strike. Some of the PAF A-5Cs have also reportedly been modified to carry a single 5-20 kT nuclear bomb under the centreline along with two external wing mounted fuel drop tanks. It is said that in the event of a nuclear attack, the PAF A-5Cs could be used to deliver battlefield nuclear bombs over advancing armoured columns. They could also reportedly be used for conventional as well as nuclear attack on Indian air bases, missile launch sites and strategic installations located within 1,000 km from the Pakistani border with air defence escort provided by PAF F-7MP fighter interceptors.

Strengthened landing gear and an extra pair of under fuselage hard points were fitted, and some Navy aircraft were fitted with Doppler radar compatible with their role as sea-skimming delivery platforms for the C-801 Anti-ship Missiles (AshMs) and under fuselage torpedoes. Further enhancement of the Q-5I's offensive capabilities, in the form of an extra pair of under wing hard points and a new gun/bomb-sighting system, led in the mid-1980s to the Q-5IA; the addition of RWR resulted in the Q-5II.


Exported to Bangladesh and Pakistan. Bangladesh Air Force's A-5Cs have been upgraded in 2008 to fire LS-6 and LT-2 ground attack munitions giving them advanced strike capability.

All Mirage III (approx 120) and A5 (approx 40) should be offerd to Pakistan Navy.

bcz A5's "short leg"

Any alternative usgae of these short legs. I think bird capabilities are not bad.
They can be deputed at Rahim Yar Khan Air port or Rawalakot Air port

Bangladesh Air Force's A-5Cs have been upgraded in 2008 to fire LS-6 and LT-2 ground attack munitions giving them advanced strike capability.

PAF should improve A5III to A5IIIA(like BAF's A5IIIA) to fire LS-6 and LT-2 ground attack munitions
