PAF will need new engines as JF-17 will form the backbone of PAF. ACM Rao said recently:

Referring to the induction of the JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft co-produced with China, Suleman said the PAF plans to eventually induct up to 250 planes, making it the backbone of its inventory.

However, there was still a requirement for a more advanced fighter aircraft, as the PAF prepares to counter the future edge the IAF may acquire once it completes the planned purchase of 126 MMRCAs, the air chief maintained.

thats how i think it will go,
forming it the back bone is inevitable! with JF17 being an economic home made option it is sureely here to be the main stay against indian superiority. for this to happen we will surely be going for upgrades including engines, avionics and radar. as the potential of the plane reflects that it can undergo these modification without causing much problems to main design they are sure to happen. for the engine part, it does not seem to be comming before third block, more because of time factor then availability,,

Isn't PT meant to be shorthand for "prototype"? ... ... The above plane is a production version, number 09-110 for the PAF. It should not be labeled "PT".

Nothing to apologise for bro ... ... little things like that are easy to mix up ... ... especially which the thrill and excitement of seeing a new photo. Just in the other forum, someone has mentioned that these two photos show no smoke! .... hope it is permanent.

I don't think a couple of pictures are enough to verify that. We have to wait for some new videos once the squadron is formed. Smoke can easily be missed in pictures especially some of those pics seem enhanced.

Means that Pakistan will buy more J10B and probabily 50 + Rafeal or Eurofighter to counter IAF MMRCA's

And what is InAF MMRCA? Maximum forseen fund is $10 billion!
What can they buy with this amount which cannot be intercepted with JF-17 or J-10B or F-16 blk 52!
Remember said amount includes wepons package, technology transfer, production line, technical assistance to build LCA, technical assistance to build Kaveri, technology transfer in nuclear bombs, supply of chemical and biological wepons etc.
Only country willing, able and interested to boost arms inventory of anti Pakistan state to such a level is US, and what US cannot do is fund F-35 or F-22 for india. what else we have available from US as MMRCA...? same F-16, perhaps with customised avionics package!
Other reason for India to go for F-16 is that on various occasions Pakistan have spotted F-16 in india and obvious conclusion is those were from Israel and once India got hold of F-16 than Israeli pilots would not have to bring along F-16 in future indo-Pak conflicts.

Now again the delay is not that US has problem in supplying all above technology for meger $10billion. Problem is development of JF-17.
I expect MMRCA to be delayed further untill concrete info. about JF-17 blk2 specs. comes up.

woow man,whats left more??? may be they can also include building of roads, bridges and infrastructure it looks more like 'rejuvination of indian armed forces deal' rather then MMRCA deal.

American influence in Europe and Balkans is weakening and it is weak pretty much.
Now we have pro-american government and that pro-american government asked Chinese Airforce to participate in Airshow. Further more, we signem military cooperation agreement with China couple a days a go and chief of Chinese general staff visited Serbia a month a go.

So, I belive that we could buy FC-1, J-10 even. I believe that Americans will swallow that more easily than if we buy Russian Sukhois.
And as it looks, we rejected any Western fighter.

they should have gone with the Sukhois.
