The problem with the reverse engineering approach is that you get from 1-6 but dont learn about 2-3-4-5. So While you do end up getting to know 1 and 6... you realize that since you dont have the background knowledge base to do 2-3-4-5. you can do either 1 or 6. And since doing a 6 is risky and near impossible for you to pull off succesfully.. you end up doing 6+1=7 +1=8 +1=9.
Now the person who did go through 2-3-5 or at least spent a lot of time learning 2-3-4-5 ..can then do 6+2 =8 +3=11 +4=15.. and so on. Case in point: the Indian and Pakistani Missile programs.

True indeed. The "Non-Reverse Engineering" approach is slower, more painful and simply fraught with greater risks of failure. Which can really add to the stresses of the project.
But if that approach is finally pulled off; then the base technologies become really sound and later development can then proceed on exponential trajectories.
Reverse Engineering works best as "Band-Aids".

for some knowledgeable members , what could be possible reason for Jf-17 to over come f-16 in anti ship roles ? is it something to do with light weight ? or maneuverability ? or may be its related to its stealthy design ?

This refers to Anti Ship capability... But I hope that PAC will be able to produce JF17 Block-II at least in 100 numbers for PAF.

It seems to be the weapons capability of the JF 17 over the F 16. For the u s---the F16 was never meant for naval strike missions. But as some of the JF 17's would be replacing the Mirage aircraft---so basically---the JF17 would be the deicated naval strike and over the water missions.

And as the most advance weaponery for naval strike missions is chinese---then by default the JF 17 seems to be the leading aircraft for over the water missions.

Secondly, I am sure the good Doctor never meant to say underwater targets but rather sea targets. Journalism can misquote or it can be a slip of the tongue. It befalls readers to be more alert rather than follow exactly what has been said.

After all, If people were to follow how Junaid Jamshaid sang. "ya rab dille Muslim ko, woh zinda tamanna de.. Jo kalb go garma de"
(O lord, give the heart of muslims the burning desire, that warms the dog).. when the song actually says Qalb(heart).. then a lot of dogs would spontaneously combust whenever Muslims got romantic or sentimental.

A lot of exaggeration and extrapolation of capabilities the JFT was never designed for. One needs to be realistic.

JF-17s is a true multi role fighter. I hope that PAC would gain money from GOP through PAF and will going to produce about 100++ for PAF and some 100++ for other Air Forces as well.
