true, but will lead to 'plumbing' changes and could delay things by atleast 2-3 years as contract negotiations take time these days and nothing is available 'off the shelf'.

Its based on a very old tech, they are very big also compared to the RD-93 class of engines.

Thus fitting it into JF-17 may be a problem.

RD-33/93:

WS-9/RR-Spey:

Probably because WS9 is a Licensed Production of Rolls-Royce Spey 202....Might have come with Restrictions

According to the analysts in the current situation Pakistan Aeronautical Complex may get 36 RD-93 Engines.

There will be a possible order of 120 RM12 Engines.

WS-13 has a long way to go.

USA may approve this deal because if USA can deliver F-16 (Block 52) jets, so providing RM12 Engines won’t be a big issue.

WS13 is in fact the core engine of project of 'TIANSHAN 21".

The project of TIANSHAN 21 is one of the competitors for Chinese next engine after WS10A.

If surviving,TIANSHAN21 would be more advanced than WS10 & russian RD93.

But the project of TIANSHAN21 was given up by PLA after its core engine rolled out,because some more attractive projects were raised up.

So the institute concerned was very frustrated and depressed at the decision of PLA and felt it very painful to put the core engine of TIANSHAN21 aside after investing so many $.

At the time,the project of JF-17 started and are looking for a new engine instead of unreliable Russian RD93.

So the institute in charge of TIANSHAN21 decided to cooperate with CAC and develope a new engine at the base of abandoned core engine of TIANSHAN21 & that is WS13.

It is reported that
ENGINE WS13 = The CORE ENGINE OF TIANSHAN21 + THE APPENDIX AND SHELL OF RD93.

And WS13 is a long story.
