JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

I think any future block of JF-17 should be build with the help of Turkey. I think China want to sell J-10C to Pakistan that’s why they dragging the development work on JF-17 block 3.

JF-17 Thunder is a light-weight fighter and J-10C is a medium-weight fighter.

China offered Pakistan joint venture on the J-10 program in 1992 and Pakistan rejected it because Pakiatan wanted a light-weight fighter to replace it's older light-weight fighters.

I just don't get why people keep trying to force PAC to do joint ventures with Turkey and China when Pakistan doesn't need one anymore. JF-17 Thunder is fulfilling ALL of Pakistan's light-weight fighter needs.

. .
Stealth,
Instead of ranting for half a page, plz point three (3) major design flaws that were pointed to you by these experts. This plane has now a decade and half under its belt. If these were such major flaws where weren’t they rectified till now would be the question.

Plus when Pakistan and China were designing the Thunders, West was constantly doing propaganda against the Project.

Western magazines were like Pakistanis don't even know how to design a plane while Chinese are only good at reverse-engineering. They would claim once these fighter aircrafts are flying, they'll be falling out of sky like birds.

Alhamdu'lillah, after 12 years around 120 aircraft have been built and 6 squadrons operating them, only 2 have crashed. And, those 2 crashes were not due to any design flaws.

So I don't know where do all these experts get the idea that JF-17 Thunder is badly designed. It's like listening to Indians from the last decade, "but, but JF-17 Thunder can't fire missiles."

.
Do you mean J-10C would play the same role as that of JF-17 in PAF, if PAF buys J-10C?
I think, but again, this thinking is pre rafale,
That
J-10C if used with PAF would have been utilized NOT to its max capabilities due to maybe less requirements ?

But that doesn’t make any sense since we already use F-16s so i guess, it has something to do with doctrine or what !!!

This is complete BUll$h1t. Chinese never offered joint venture for J-10. They offered it for 65 million each on high interest loan which will end up costing each 68 to 70 million each. PAF didn’t reject it because of JF-17 B3, they reject it because of the cost. JF-17 is light weight and J-10 is medium weight with longer range Radar and higher Maneuverability.

I don't understand the criticism by the majority of posters here? DID PAF ever officially stated whats the benchmark for Block 3 ?. Did they say they will change the airframe and replace the existing engine?
People saying Air Frame doesn't have this doesn't or that
1 Pakistan doesn't have time either the resources to reinvent the Wheel.
2 The majority of the Wish list was created by members here and now they are crying somehow PAF ignored that.
Pakistan cant make major changes with AirFrame as it will delay the timeline which Pakistan cant mess around Pakistan is not adding F16s, In Reality, Thunder is your main Strike Fighter For future Unless Pakistan gets Block 60 on F16
3 Thunder was designed as Low cost, Low maintenance, Multi-Role Fighter.
4 The New Upgrade was meant to create this a true 4.5 Gen Bird With AESA radar, Better EW & ECM giving a better chance to go against Heave Platforms of Indian Air Force.
5 Adding HMD & MFD and rest are the needs to make it a true competitor against what's available in the market.
6 Current Engine is OK Until China can provide a better replacement engine which is at least safer than the current engine on thunder as simply adding a new engine that is not fully working can kill the whole option of ever selling this aircraft in the international market.
Thunder will never jump to Mid Class as it was not designed for that role it would be easier and cheaper to design a new platform for that specific Role.

Few posters are talking about Lockheed & Boeing already designing 6th Gen Air Craft.
do we have any benchmark for that, for 5th Gen it was stealth,
how many countries have fully operational 5th Gen birds? Besides Uncle Sams F35 & F22. No other jet is fully combat-ready.
These Companies are Private entities they earn money by providing newer Tech and they have other resources as well to earn money. which is not the case for Pakistan & China While China is investing heavily Pakistan cant and have to depend on China for mature Tech.
From what I can see a true successor would be Drone, but for that we need to mature A.Is system which currently no country has shown the capability or will.
Drones can fighter better than humans it simple. they can pull more Gs, remove the human factor, remove the human delay & their judgement doesn't get clouded.
I have been saying for ages if Pakistan want to be relevant in the next century, they need to invest in Space & Quantum Tech like yesterday.
many of the problems Pakistan face today can be solved not just Pakistan by Humanity. A computer can resolve these problems much efficiently.

.
So here is the question I can not get an answer, if this is all about having an AESA, HUD, HMD, bunch of new sensors, integration of latest weapons, why did PAC/CAC needed to do a full blown prototype, flight tests, etc. There is more to it than what we are observing, I guess people would have been a bit more excited if there was a coat of RAM on skin.
Lets look for the non-obvious ones.

Fanboys want PAC/CAC to reveal all the juice inside Block-3 along with the Source Code on the Internet. Only then they'll be able to sleep at night.

Xiaolong's latest diffraction flat display exposure! Pakistani Air Force Commander overjoyed, confronting India is not a problem
2019-12-30 00:00
Recently, major news came from the "Jiaolong" fighter! On December 28th, the first flight of the Jade Dragon block3 (JF-17) prototype was successfully launched, which immediately aroused the attention of domestic military fans, because it meant that the performance of this light fighter had taken it to a whole new level. From the large slogan hanging at the test flight station, it can be clearly seen that its content is "JF-17 Block3 01 aircraft first flight activity", which also shows that the long-rumored Nine Dragon block3 finally got the official hammer. So, what improvements have been made to the first blockbuster of the Dragon Dragon 3?

From the perspective of the exposed local body, Nine Dragons block3 has a high probability to maintain the original aerodynamic layout, but only modified local details. In addition, the cockpit head-up display is upgraded to a new wide-angle diffractive head-up display, which is significantly larger than the original conventional head-up display, and is equipped with a HUD similar to the J-20, which further strengthens the pilot's information processing capabilities and is more advanced than the J-20. . According to news, in later models, the Pilot Block3 pilots will also be equipped with HMD helmets to achieve "look and fight." Secondly, the first flight of the Dragon Dragon Block 3 was suspected of adding a missile approach warning system near the air intake of the fuselage, which could significantly improve the fighter's warning ability against incoming missiles.

In fact, rumors about the Dragon 3 Block3 have been circulating for a long time. It is reported that Cheng Fei applied many new achievements to the Dragon 3 Block3 version, which made the Pakistani Air Force Commander very surprised. In addition to the new wide-angle diffractive head-up display and missile approach warning system mentioned above, the Nine Dragons Block3 also uses a large number of composite materials, which means that it can carry more fuel or weapons without changing the power system. Not only that, Nine Dragons Block3 will also be retrofitted with KLJ-7A airborne three-sided array active phased array radar, with a maximum detection range of more than 200 kilometers, capable of detecting more than 20 air targets at the same time, and possibly equipped with PL-15 long range Air-to-air missiles and PL-10 short-range combat missiles have significantly improved combat capabilities.

Some analysts pointed out that because the main opponent of the Dragon Dragon Block3 was gusts, this upgrade is aimed at gusts. Despite being a third-generation light fighter, the Nine Dragons Block3, with its active phased array radar and advanced air-to-air missiles, can effectively suppress the Indian LCA "brilliant" fighter, and can compete with India's newly introduced French "Rafale" fighter. In contrast, the legal “Gust” introduced by India is equipped with an RBE-2AA active phased array radar with a maximum detection range of only 110 kilometers, while the KLJ-7A active phased array radar retrofitted by Nine Dragons Block3. The maximum detection distance has exceeded 200 kilometers. In addition, the PL-15 long-range air-to-air missile that the Dragon 3 may replace in the future, both in terms of range and combat performance, far exceed the "Mika" medium-range air-to-air missile currently used by Rafale. It is foreseeable that under the continuous improvement of the "Jiaolong" fighter aircraft, it will become the backbone of the Pakistan Air Force with its powerful combat capabilities.

Cockpit is of j-10c not block 3
A translated article for sure !!!

Look, i am done with all this KLJ-7A bs now. Every next person keeps on mentioning it while it was never confirmed about it and further claims by our authentic madam messaich confirms it !!!

. .
“China offered Pakistan joint venture on the J-10 program in 1992 and Pakistan rejected it because Pakiatan wanted a light-weight fighter to replace it's older light-weight fighters.”

This is complete BUll$h1t. Chinese never offered joint venture for J-10. They offered it for 65 million each on high interest loan which will end up costing each plane close to 68 to 70 million each with interest. PAF didn’t reject it because of JF-17 B3, they reject it because of the cost. JF-17 is light weight and J-10 is medium weight with longer range Radar and higher Maneuverability.

Both Pakistan and China lost interest on the JF-17 Thunder (then Super-7) project between 1992-1996. They didn't abandon it but it was put on a slow burner.

China lost interest because they were happy with an upgraded J-7 and they didn't need another light-weight JF-17 Thunder platform for themselves anymore. Instead their focus had shifted to the J-10 program and they offered Pakistan joint venture on this.

Pakistan had lost interest in the JF-17 Thunder project because China said Pakistan will need to spend an additional $400 million to set up the infrastructure in Pakistan for building the fighter in Pakistan. This was when Pakistan had lost $695 million on the F-16s and was put under the Pressler Amendment.

Pakistan rejected the J-10 joint venture because they were not convinced that China was capable of producing J-10 equivalent to the F-16s by the end of 1990s. Also, because Pakistan had a more urgent light-weight fighter replacement requirement than expanding an expensive medium-weight fleet.

RBE-2 AA has 110 km detection range vs KLJ-7A has over 200 km?
I think credibility of the article becomes suspect, with this one statement.

No disrespect intended to anyone, though.

One part you saying they did not offer other part you saying they ejected becouse of hight cost?? Look budy pakistan got experience to built jet..pak is one country where its airforce is manufacturing its own jets..means very cheap labour and lots of newyoung labour geting in to learning process.. other hand private manufactures can not afford this....reason why we already have good number of jf in service in very short time..even we did not had this experience 20 years back..i am impressed..just look teja 40 years..if we start buying expensive jet we couldn't be able to manufacture jf...most important point...dont think what we have today. Think what we will have after 20 years as nation.i belive we will be among some best jet manufacturers in 20 years...
