I read somewhere about the block 4 production and designs which will include a few major changes to the structure. Not sure if that had any substance but I guess we can only speculate until the designs are confirmed.

What if a "good looking canopy" creates drag?

Hi,

Thank you for your post---. There is a reason for the JF17's canopy designed as it is---.

The F16 type bubble canopy is expensive---it flexes at close to Mach2 speed---. It also reflects back heat signature.

The F16 canopy design was from the late 60's early 70's---gave a great view for the piulot---.

But with due to modern sensors that are mounted all around the aircraft---the modern pilot has electronic eyes available looking away from the aircraft and informing the pilot what is around in the arena---. So the bubble type of canopy is not needed---.

The JF17 is a successful design---the only option open should be to do a Grippen E type upgrade---.

This is why a high thrust engine is needed if this design modification is to be "drag neutral". the WS-13E engine is in the works, and hopefully soon it will demonstrate enough of a great thrust that it will offset the increase in drag.

The JF-17 design team can run this modification through the super-computers at CAC and find out how to minimize the drag as well as what offsets are needed (such as high carbon composite use in the fuselage, and better shaping of the air frame)

CAC has gained a lot of experience in the J-20's development and there has even been a proposed "stealthy canopy" design for the JF-17, so this idea is not new, but a "good looking canopy" can win customers, and help the nation financially.

The Design doesn't need to be a full Bubble Canopy, but something like the Canopy on the J-31V2; Its not as drag intensive, but gives the pilot greater visibility then the JF-17 pilot has already.

According to the Indian Air Force (IAF) intelligence report accessed by Zee News, the Pakistani Air Force is in the process of adding 62 , JF-17 jets before India gets the 36 Rafale jets . As per the agreement with Dassault Aviation of France, the delivery of Rafale jets will commence from 2020.
Kindly let us know, Is this Pakistani JF-17 Thunder-Block 3 jet fighter is compatible/comparable/better than Indian Rafale jets??
Both Pakistan and India will meet in next dog fight between JF-17 Thunder-Block 3 and Rafale Jet fighters .Who will be winner on long run ??

Rafale is a twin engine aircraft used for striking with heavy payloads. It can lift alot of payload, also it is very fast and agile can do dog fights. Or evade missiles in air very easily. It can down m
Many more targets in air from a greater distance.
Its avionics are among the best in the world.

Indian airforce will need a good few years to master this aircraft's full potential and bring pilots up to speed.

Jf17-block III will be onpar (Equal to) Block 60 F-16 with a select few things better than it. Which i can't get into just yet.

In a master ace pilot's hand taking out average pilot's rafale with JF-17 block III would be possible yes. But rafale will make indian airforce better than what it is right now.

For the likes of Rafale and Mig 35 type tier 1 aircraft pakistan will need a little more than block III JF-17.


JF 17 block 1 was supposed to replace F7 akd F7PG in PAF inventory.
JF 17 Block 2 was supposed to replace Mirage aircraft in PAF inventory.
JF 17 Block 3 is supposed to replace old F-16s in pakistan Air Force inventory.

With jf 17 in paf old aircraft will be retired.

Besides these there is a need for a tier 1 aircraft in medium numbers. This aircraft will most likely be Project AZM 's product. Most likely will have sophisticated home grown avionics and stealth features which will make it possible to take on likes of rafale and f-35 type aircraft with ease of mind.

Based on the given info... A production run can not be expected before mid to end of next yr at the earliest. This means we may need more than 60 block 2s or would overhaul or upgrade the initial block 1s.
More over the timeline for an improved RD93 was 2019 and thus i assume that block 3 os definitely coming up for a newer or improved engine.
Block 3 needs 100kn engine period ...PAF cannot play around with rafales and mirage2000 updates coming

It needs gripen NG level evolution

15% better thrust, 30% range, AESA IRST HMD...

Meteor will be a challenge ..nothing in Pakistan aresnal can answer for that..seems even china doesn't has anything in pipeline similar to it

Pehlay note to dikhao chehra baad main hoga. Jokes aside we need to let testing get completed. This is what takes time. If we are looking at a new engine and the Red bear starts playing tricks on us we may have more delays. So let us wait and get a good tested product rather than a half done untested thaila queen..

The latest block of PL12 (PL12D) will be in the similar category (improved maneuverability with ramjet engines).

There are PL15 and PL21 but they are in the heavy category.
