JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

Different sources are telling different news about the engine for JF-17 Block111, to be used in Pakistan in
near future. ""Otherwise the overall aerodynamic configuration remains the unchanged and the aircraft is still powered by the original RD-93 engine. The latest report (February 2020) suggested that the KLJ-7A AESA radar has been chosen by PAF. The latest rumor (March 2020) suggested that the indigenous WS-13E engine is finally ready for mass production."""

Kindly confirm which engine will be used in Pakistani bird , RD-93 or WS-13E ??
Which engine is best in you, professional opinions ??

RD-93. Simply because of economics. they already have a shop set up for overhauling RD93, PAF will not introduce a new engine this late in the game.

Thank you for profession voice.
As Pak lover i wish to see JF-17 Thunder Block3 a perfect compatible jet fighter. Above razgriz19 told RD93 while Haris Ali2140 having a parallel opinion that PAC/PAF is out of RD93 with no new order ??.
My friend in Islamabad said the engine in new JF-17 Thunder Block3 is probably,
RD-33MK , which is also being used in Russian MiG-35 ???
I heard Russia is asking China, not to provide Russian engines to Pakistan ??
This forum also pointed out that WS-13E could be used.??
It is very confusing. Have PAC/PAF not yet decided, which engine to use ??

I think there should be no confusion at all. There are professionals at work at PAF and like all big organisations there are many plans Bs and Cs and layered contingency plans one after the other in case Plan As doesnt work . PAF is not a media house to cover each and every second of happenings at the PAC. Whether a new engine will come or not and whether it will be a WS-13E or RD-33MK or any other will be known in due time. The JF-17 project was being planned from mid 90s and the first locally assembled jet was unveiled only in late 2009, so more than a decade involved in between the events. The same was the case with our nuclear program. To keep expecting new updates on the project on a daily basis is childish at the first place and linking it to your confusion has nothing to do with the reality. Keep calm, PAF is at work!

Really?!! First i've heard of it.

Maybe they'll change their tune once they see some compelling evidence of a certain Su-30 going down in flames at the hands of a certain F-16...

Can't we all (just) get along...

Don’t buy it bro.
Nothing as such. We have enough extra engines BTW for at least I believe 2-3 more years of production

Has it been confirmed that block 3 will get pl-15? And is Pl-15 better then Amraam? Can i get some non-bias views please thanks.

AFAIK we ordered 150 engines as per public knowledge. Add 100+ Blk 1/2, 8 Bs, 12 for Myanmar Air Force, 3 for Nigerian Air Force and prototypes and we are out of engines.

Last time anything published on new engine for jf was at one of the air show in Europe and the engine was referred to ws-17 I guess ws-13 for jf single engine will be named ws-17 and Perhaps twine engine for FC-31 as ....

I am trying to find the article

There no way Chinese re-branded WS-13 as WS-17 in fact there no WS-17 as for FC-31 and its expected modified Form for PLAAN J-35 will have WS-19 and its in a developmental stages and its in same class as upgraded version of EJ-200/F-414 eetc etc

I can only agree with @seven0seven, there is no WS-13-based WS-17. I don't know why this is still referred to - esp at Wiki - but IMO it is simply a typo (similar to these repeated posts, the JF-17B and Block 3 have a wider span). Also, why should anyone call a single engine installation WS-13, and a twin-engined installation WS-17, it simply makes no sense.

Either way unit cost would go down for both parties. I do see one hurdle being Russia doesn't want Egypt not buying Russia's planes so may block engine sale unless China can introduce it's own engine for export.
Here is the good part, WS-13E is
