JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

Is there any tech or system that is IRST mounted on grounds ?

sure, ground based and naval based systems exist, and they complement the radar in areas which maybe radar blind spots, or act as a passive IR picket fence against enemy movement.

good idea you mention this. It’s something Pakistan should consider along the LOC and international border as well as near major bases to counter enemy aircraft or munitions quicker; shorter OODA loop

watching indian videoss on tejas vs jf 17 comparison

1. starts with discussing class of fighters and presenters usually ends this part with claim on the part of IAF that suggested IAF plane will be considered THE BEST in that CLASS (PERIOD: like a boss)

2. in second part with head on comparison presenter describes, states and calculates various facts and figures on both planes; this part is usually consumed in presenting facts & figures as if opponent is some duffer student of class and presenter and his team (IAF) has somehow trumped this duffer student's ideas and has now become the star of the show

3. so, in the last part: with all the WISDOM based on facts(twisted and incomplete knowledge i might add) & figures (based on their OWN analysis) presenter usually finishes video with a claim which is another (bigger) claim on the first claim e.g first presenter will claim IAF's plane is better in THAT class only but when the video that CLASS BEST plane all the sudden becomes BEST PLANE in THAT GENERATION (PERIOD).

and im not joking in any way; im serious... they will start by saying tejas is better is light weight category class but then after comparison they will make another (bigger than first claim) that not only tejas is not only better in that class; it is also THE BEST fighter in that whole generation..

simple question to such men of wisdon; why the whole flock is not buying like crazy THIS BEST IN CLASS fighter; if its THAT GOOD?!
Let me ask you why you wasted your time listening to the Indians comparing their Thaila Queen with a functioning and integrated platform. It is so good it does not need to get off its thaila at all. All PAF dies is park its JFTs in hardened bunkers from fear of the Tejas. She is the Phoolan devi of Light weight aircrafts.

I have no idea, what restricts the IRST systems to small ranges but if size is the restriction (which certainly isnt), then build up IRST Ground based installments across whole IB and LOC. Could be mobilized.

Advantages are, Our fighters wouldn’t have to get close to get a confirmation check on IRST in which case if they themselves get close, they will be in NEZ of rafale weaponry (and vice versa) and it will result in losses

Considering tejas was originally conceived as a 2nd generation plane in 1975...

It may as well be best in its generation if it ever becomes functional .. That is best 2nd generation plane only a century late

Advanced IRST are expensive, while a mobile flying IRST on the nose or in a pod can be moved quickly and precisely to where the unknown bogey has been detected, and the fighter has the means to engage it quickly.

long term, we should have ground based IRST in high threat sectors; particularly along the LOC, when our economy can spare the money to fund such a program.

we actually had a manned spotter system (“mobile observer units”), probably still do, but an AI aided IRST would be a game changer.

Is there any recon UAV in the world which can mount an IRST module ?

yes, many, but they need to be fast, harder to detect, and have some sort of self defense capability otherwise we have to be prepared to lose them in the event of enemy fighters shooting them down.

IRST module from this pod could be put on a UAV with the right cooling, data processing, and data links to best use the information

Turkey is prepping Aksungur and Akinji HALEs - both passed 1st flying tests- for all sorts of EW/SIGINT jobs!! And, they'll be adequately armed with indigenous WVR/BVR missiles under AESA radars....

Excellent long endurance system; seems perfect for loitering patrols with advanced sensors; AESA, IRST, and EW/SIGINT

BTW, any indication of a Turkish made HMD System Pakistan can buy for the JF-17?

AVCI Helmet Integrated Cueing System (HICS) is a visor-projected system. It is designed for helicopter platforms to improve the pilot's situational awareness and increase the capabilities of the pilot and aerial vehicle with its night vision, video, symbology, accurate head tracking.

Night vision, IR video, navigation and weapon symbology
Generation of head tracking information for accurate line of sight cueing and targeting
Personalized inner liner for pilot
Protection of Pilot's head and face against impact and sharp objects

Subassemblies

Headgear Unit (assembly of Basic Helmet, Display Module, Head Tracking Module, Connection and Battery Module)
Electronics Unit (Symbology generation, video processing and head tracking algorithms)
Cockpit Camera Modules (for head tracking)
Control Panel (user interface on the platform for adjustments and selections)

Important Features

Technical Features

Basic Helmet is composed of lightweight composite materials and individually manufactured inner liner specific to the user.

Video, navigation, weapon and platform symbologies and external video (i.e. IR camera, missile seeker) are projected on Pilot's visor. The symbology of the system can be designed according to the platform and user specifications.

Hybrid Head Tracking system, which uses both optical and inertial tracking methods, provides easy cockpit installation.

Any indication Turkey is adapting this system or developing it further for a Fighter. The T-FX model at the Paris Air show in 2019; was a HMD mentioned as part of the project (under Human-Machine Interface)?

Considering all the elements are there with this helmet, do you have any indication if Pakistan approached Turkey to develop a Helmet, considering Pakistan has been working with Turkey on the EW components of the Block III? Has there been any tenders issued in Turkey media or shared on Turkish Forums about a HMD requirement Turkish Industry is looking at meeting.

Under the F-35, Turkish Industry probably gained great insight and is best placed (IMHO) among Pakistani Suppliers to develop a HMD akin to that to be fielded on the F-35.

I haven't read anything in this regard. As ASELSAN is opening a office in Pak new projects to cater for PAF's needs can be initiated...
