JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

There were news about The ATAK helicopters engines, American block the delivery of ATAK's engines to Turkey. Will Pakistan reconsider this deal of $1.5 Billion with Turkey?
If Pak choose to agree on other type of engines, their were consequences as ATAK'S frame have to be modified to fit those engines. What would you say?

The Turkish folks know the US embargoes first hand...

They are working on the indigenous chopper engines (for ATAK, ATAK 2, Gokbey etc.) day and night. The first trial has already been completed. More emphasis is given on the materials science/engineering of the internal engine parts, which makes the difference...

With the US engines or not, Pak-Turkey cooperation on ATAK project will go on for Turkey's honor and reputation are at stake!!!! The Turkish folk go "mad" in such situations - be it liberating the Turkish folks in Cyprus with only 70 cents in the treasury, or arraigning 80K troops to rush into Syria/Irak to put an end to the Terror Corridor from the borders of Iran to the Mediterranean once and for all...

Hodri Meydan....

This thread is not for ATAK but JF-17 BLK-3 thread go to appropriate thread in army section bro @Israr Saeed

Some more info on the Block-3 and the designated weapons and electronic package.
Personally all this is alien stuff to me but perhaps @Oscar can shed some light on it.

''Its almost unfair to compare Block-3 with the first two Blocks. Its pretty much like comparing a old non-MLU Block-15 with Block-52...simply no comparison! Also, Block-3 is featuring military-grade strength construction with newer composite materials further reducing the weight, increasing the airframe life of the JF and reducing its RCS from some angles too. The AESA radar will be the real game-changer cus its pretty much a stealthy radar, very difficult to detect and jam and can effectively operate in ECM environments. But after AESA the jewel in the crown will be the mating of PL-10 with the helmet and EO/IR sensor.

The PL-10 is just like the German IRST (Infra-Red Search and Tracking)...is a short-range high off-boresight imaging, infra-red-guided missile. It features thrust-vectoring giving the weapon a 90°off-bore sight capability. Now compare that with our current F-16 fleet. The AIM-9Ms we got have a high off-boresight shooting capability of 30 degrees on either side meaning the pilots can give that 'dirty look' uptill 30 degrees. This one has 90 degrees on both sides, same as the USAF AIM-9X, meaning there's no escape as the pilot turn his head all the way to the back. Rumour is the PL-10 features a laser proximity fuse meaning it can auto self-destruct if the laser senses that the PL-10 is about to miss the target but is close enough to cause enough damage by going kaboom so it'll go off. And once mated with the HMS (Helmet Mounted Sight) it can obtain lock-on both before and after launch as well.
Tidbit of the EO/IR sensor...Pilots will be able to clearly see what aircraft is coming with what weapon load some 40-60km away and what manoeuvres are being performed...they can even turn their radars off making Block-3s detection even more difficult...passive scanning and detection at its best. So once both these add-ons are incorporated you can see why the edge of the IAF, especially the Rafales and the rest of the IAF fleet will be significantly blunted. This is the reason why this latest Shaheen-7 caused so much distress to our neighbours''.

The EO/IR sensor and a compatible missile are a good capability upgrade, but I don't see why the Rafale and rest of the IAF fleet will be "significantly blunted". All this talk of missile and HMDS brings it on par with what we have, not blunt it. For example, the Jaguars already have the ASRAAM, and the MKI and LCA will get it as well.

Not to mention, it's just two or three squadrons, not even close to what's actually necessary to even begin the process of blunting the IAF.

what is the specific question? This is nothing alien about helmet mounted sights and high off bore AAms; this very 'simplistic' methodology has been around for a very very long time - fielded in late 70s' when it was rudimentary. Close proximity is well but remember there is a high risk associated with it too if in a crowded field. While PL-10 is good- the real game changer will be A-darter if brought in at a later stage. I had said this long before this is where jf-17 will cross the rubicon once this capability is achieved.

Exactly. This upgrade will only bring it up to speed with what others already have.

Does the A-Darter have an FPA seeker?

Yes. UAE and Bahrain both asked right away if there are twin seaters.

These are typically delaying tactics. Neither country has any need for a twin seat jet, particularly the UAE. Give them the single seat F-35 and you will see them lap it all up.

They have a need for it in their own way that you may not understand or may not want it to happen. But their reasons were clear when they visited the facility.....

If they do not want it for training alone, then what's left is battlespace management and strike missions. But they have much better aircraft for that. At worst, joyrides for all the Sheikhs and their guests.

Just trying to figure out what they are expecting from the twin seat.

Arabs wont buy thunders unless they are being booted and kicked off by the europeans and americans.
They are enslaved by them.. Are in an awe.... Overwhelmed... Everything from them has to be top class or top of the line.
If god had permitted humans to bow down bfore a grp of ppl then i assure u these GCC guys wud have bowed to americans or germans or britishers in particular and europeans in general.
They will not, rather they will never buy from us unless they are cornered and the world develops extreme anxiety to them continuing their rule and practices. Few more jamal khashoshgi episodes and a fall out with usa or eu and then only will they run towards alternative options.

The new iteration of the JF-17 is set to enter service in the early 2020s, and will make use of conformal fuel tanks for an extended range and deploy superior electronic warfare systems and an AESA radar.

That's new. Any truth to this?

Unlikely. The current iteration of the JF-17 is already pushing the limits of what the RD-33 can provide. The Block III might have greater percentage of composites but its AESA radar and newer EW/ECM systems will also add additional mass, making it less feasible to add drag-inducing CFTs.

Hi,

Let us slow down a little bit---. Pak military is also in awe of western product---if it could have procured western stuff---it without restraints or even with restraint---it would have gone for it---.

So---please don't bash the Arabs for no reason---.

ir order for them to buy from us---we will have to prove our goods---.

A seller has to prove the quality of his merchandise for the buyer to be interested---.

Don't just wing it left and right and make hate speech against the arabs---.

The Arabs are a Tier 1 product buyers---. get close to that tier---and they will come running---. They have no love lost for west---.

Give them a reason to come to you---.

Hi,

It is all talk---wait till the product hits the deck---. You will find the surprise---.

Well said.

Hi,

No one wants to buy a weapon from a brand weapons manufacturer---because there is NO REPUTATION to back the product---.

Paf is fortunate to have the backings of the chinese industrial complex---plus their own image in the arab world to make the Arabs interested in this product---.

And they have shown more interest in this nascent product due to our air force's reputation than they would have to anyone else---.

Next---the product has to have certain goodies to attract picky buyers---. Most pakistanis are ecstatic & happy with a Suzuki Mehran---so what would most pakistanis know about luxuries in automobile---when their biggest car is a Toyota corolla---which is a lower tier model for those with money----.

So---our BLK 3 should be getting us to that higher attractive tier---.

So---please let us not insult those who just saved our arse from a financial meltdown---.
