Settler violence against Palestinians is a common occurence


The Wadi Halwa Information Centre has given details about illegal Jewish settlers who attacked Palestinian residents of Silwan and the Old City in Jerusalem during the week March 16th-25th. The settlers, it is reported, used pepper spray against Palestinians, including children.

On Monday morning, in Silwan, four Jewish settlers attacked 16-year old Mansour Nasser Abu-Madi as he was on his way to school. They swore at him and aimed pepper spray at his face. When the boy tried to defend himself, he was arrested by Israeli police who, however, did not intervene when he was attacked by the four Jews.

Abu-Madi was interrogated by police for 3 hours at the police station on Salaheddine Street without the presence of his parents. He was eventually released on condition of a 10-day house arrest which sees him only being allowed to go to school with the consent of his father. "The investigator told me he would contact me again after the Jewish holiday," the boy said.

In the Old City, two other Jewish settlers attacked Ibrahim Ramzi Al-Rajabi, aged 9, on March 20th while he was on the roof of his own house. They threw glass at him at close range, causing deep cuts on his face.

On March 18th, a settler youth aged just 16 attacked Dina Murad Juwailis, 14, and her brother, aged 12, in the Wadi Halwa neighbourhood of Silwan while they were on their way to school. They were both assaulted with pepper spray by their Jewish attacker.

I have a hard time believing the story of the opening post in the first place, giving the choice of words used and the source being a pro-Palestinian watchdog with an obvious anti-Israeli agenda.
Reporting minor incidents such as these on behalf of the Palestinians, but no mention of violent or terrorist attacks on Jews that are numerous and more afflicting sounds suspicious, and so the source cannot be reasonably be considered to be trustworthy and unbiased.

Does this sound like honest and objective reporting?

If the police really did something like that, liberal or left leaning papers like Haaretz would be all over it. The story of these attacks as of yet cannot be independently confirmed, and as of now no other source other than Middle East monitor is reporting it, so I have my doubts about the authenticity of certain details. I will have to keep my options open about the story nothing being (entirely) true.

This however does not mean that the pepper spray attacks and the aftermath in handling these crimes are deplorable, assuming they are not concocted, which cannot be verified at the moment.

None of the points you raised determine faulty reporting - yes putting up that picture from 2009 does.

Israeli Police Kidnap Two Children In Jerusalem - International Middle East Media Center

The center said that an Israeli settler, age 14, living in an illegal settlement outpost in Silwan, attacked the two children as they were heading to school, and sprayed pepper-spray at them.

Their father said that Deena and Mohammad were trying to defend themselves, and that his daughter was carrying butter knife in her bag, as she uses it to prepare sandwiches for herself and for her brother.

After being attacked by the settler, she took the knife out and was waving it around in an attempt to scare the settler hoping he would run away.

He added that guards of the “City of David” settlement detained his son and daughter and called for the Police. They were then arrested, and were charged with “attempting to stab” the settler.

They were taken to an Israeli Police station in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem, and were interrogated for six hours (from 7:30 in the morning until 1:30 in the afternoon).

The two were released on bail (3000NIS each), and Deena was also ordered not to approach or use the Wadi Hilweh road for ten days.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center said that this was not the first time this settler child attacked the two brothers, as he attacked them on Friday evening while they played in one of the alleys of Wadi Hilweh.

The settler tried to spray their faces with pepper spray, but accidentally sprayed his own face, he also poked the eye of Mohammad, causing a minor injury, and tried to hit the two with a baton he carried.

The Center added that residents of Wadi Hilweh are subject to frequent attacks carried out by settlers and settlement guards, as Palestinian children have been repeatedly sprayed with gas and pepper spray, and that settlers vehicles have rammed several children in numerous hit and run incidents.

It also stated that the children have also been repeatedly subject to verbal abuse and harassment by the settlers, and added that most settler children in Silwan carry pepper spray and cameras, some also carry batons, and frequently walk around the area accompanied by armed settlement guards.

you are Ignoring Illegal occupying of Palestinian lands and the structures Israel is creating in Palestinian lands. but can you tell us how Palestinian can get close to Israel buildings when Israel has created barriers and 500m safe zone in which their soldiers will shoot any one in that zone? Isn't it better to refer to UN reports rather than Israel media?
